I tried to run chkdsk and followed instructions.

I had to restart the computer for it to work but when I restarted I just had a blank screen and nothing happened.
This repeated itself every time.
I did a control +C and that got me out of the freeze.

I'd like to run this program, any ideas of how to do this?

first I would suggest doing this
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html

sounds like something isn't working right.
chkdsk is a basic 16bit app, it shouldn't have any trouble running.
Since you believe you have need to run chkdsk in the first place it's possible you have some sort of corruption involved. SFC should help straighten that out.

I'll try that.

I just wanted to see how chkdsk worked without any reason but it didn't work as I could tell.

I guess it isn't running as the process that I saw was something else.

How can I get sfc /scannow to run?

Got scannow to run, no integrity problems.

Anyone else got an idea about chkdsk? Tried it again, had to restart again.

I get my usual 8 dots at the upper left of screen and then just hangs.
Once restarted it doesn't try to run it again.

If running against the windows volume (for example, c:\), you need to force a rebbot for it to work. Try the command "chkdsk c: /r /f", which should prompt you that the system will need to be rebooted to run the chkdsk pass.

This worked, thanks.
