alright, so i ran chkdsk and found the log
it says CHKDSK discovered free space marked as allocated in the volume bitmap.
Windows has made corrections to the file system.

The problem with it is if you scan and it finds bad sectors it marks them as bad so any scans after that it doesn't show any faults so you think the disk is ok when in fact it maybe faulty

so i just ran it again and it says windows has checked the file system and found no problems.
it did say that it had cleaned up some unused index entries and security descriptors, what does that mean?
i have run chkdsk many times but it always gives me this message
is this a bug?

For a quick check of the SMART data, try Crystal Disk Info. Download – Crystal Dew World

If supported, the SSD will report back a health percentage. I have yet to this day know why some SSDs report a health percentage and others don't. It may be dependent on firmware and whether the program can pick up on that or not.

The other tool you can try is HDD Sentinel. Give the trial version a try. Hard Disk Sentinel - HDD health and temperature monitoring

Now the SMART data reporting by the drive may not even be an indicator on whether the drive is failing or not. There could be other issues. Just so that you know.

I can't remember. Have you run an sfc /scannow? If you run that and find integrity violations, that could be due to a bad drive as well.

How old is the drive and how much data has been written to it?

As to the chkdsk verbiage crap, I have no idea what all that means to be honest. I think from what it's saying now it's probably fine, but if it reports back errors then you know the drive is bad. I believe the report will actually use the word "error" if chkdsk finds errors.

No, that's not a bug. I've seen the same verbiage before many times. As it stands now, chkdsk seems to not have found any problems. And it sounds like it just did some routine clean up crap.

That verbiage reminds me of Simcity 4 or its past versions. I know in Simcity 4 at least it would say non-important or needed made up things when the map was loading. It's been years so I can't remember exactly what the loading screen said. But it was something like, "extrapolating polyfills." or something of that nature. All were completely made up and sounds like the chkdsk log verbiage.

You only need to run chkdsk once. I don't understand the question.

I don't understand the situation, I need coffee. Is it the case that every time you run chkdsk, it coughs up a report containing an error or errors?
