Alright, this hasn't happened since before my old HDD failed. I just got up this morning, turned my comp on, and Windows started to load.. then boom, CHKDSK. I always shutdown windows with the "Shutdown" button, and never hold the power button to shut it off.. could this be a sign of a failing HDD?

Hello TheAnonymity,

Not necessarily. It could be just a bit of disk corruption that was found. The best thing to do is to let it run and fix what it found. If it runs often, then you might have a issue with the HDD.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Welcome to the Forum,

In addition, if you go to the website of your HardDrive manufacturer, there may be a test for the HD.

Mine did that yesterday, first time in ages. No problems noted by CHKDSK. Like TheAnonymity, I use the shut down button.

My 2 month old HP Pavilion with Win7 HomeEd x64 did that the other day when hubby turned the pc on. No errors were reported by ChkDsk and I have no idea what triggered it off. At first I thought maybe Win7 has it in Task Scheduler, like the Defragger, but no, ChkDsk isn't scheduled there in the Microsoft section of the schedule. Hmmm. Hasn't done it since, though. Will get worried if this happens frequently on a brand new pc.
