Chkdsk related query - updated with "sfc error"

I have never ran chkdsk before on my laptop, its more than 2yrs old if I remember correctly - never had to do a system restore nor had OS fresh install.

I would like to know how often do I need to run chkdsk & are there any complications involved by running chkdsk ? I'm referring to data loss or OS crash in general, as I need to take precautions if I may face any.

My system files are on "C" drive, while I have installed most of my programs including FF on "D" , while E & F have been for all my other stuffs.. ranging from scripts, movies, images, songs & what not. From what I have learned by few tutorials over here, C drive needs to be checked during setup using schedule option while other drives can be checked even when I'm operating the system.

Goodlad mate it will have no harmful effect in fact it may pick up problems and fix run both of these

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html<= DO NOT run on a SSD
Just as matter of interest why do you think you need to run a chkdsk??

A program most of us use here is this and used regularly with defrag should keep the system tidy.

CCleaner - Download when you run this one on the cleaner when it is finished go to Options > then Cookies > highlight the ones you use passwords for and send them to the right hand list for keeping and then go back to the cleaner and run.

Thanks ICit2lol mate for the detailed response & assistance :)

Actually, I have been having too slow boots & some of the applications were opening up too slow for past 3-4 days, in fact today my system was hanging around in welcome screen for quite a while, even after that, for almost a minute or 2, I had just a black screen with a mouse pointer showing up, so I thought it would be better to run chkdsk & check may be if they are some issues with the disks, just to be on the safe side. I read some where its recommended to run chkdsk, whether system is throwing up issues or not, as it would keep the system in check & fix the issues if there are any.

Coming back to the above mentioned commands, do u want me to run them as an alternative to chkdsk or in addition or chkdsk ?

About CCleaner, will I get the cookies listed after it completes scanning, or prior to that ? As, I will have to save them, like you have stated above :)

defrag, what does it exactly do ? I haven't used feature ever before :o

As far as I know, my lappy doesn't have any SSD, is there a way I can confirm it ?

Just added crystaldisk info details, may be it can shed some focus too ?

just to update, I did the SFC & I got a msg "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix them. Details are included in CBS.log"

so, I made a new thread on the topic (over here), so that the main focus of this thread doesn't deviate
