chkdsk started with many errors

I opened my laptop today and automatically a check disk scan ran (I did not set a chkdsk schedule). I received a lot of error while scanning. Errors looked like this: deleting corrupt attribute record (128, ""). Then (I think) chkdsk deleted "pagefile.sys". After continueing the chkdsk, it seemed to be stuck on step 2 of 3. Then I tried booting into safe mode. Still, it seems to hang after loading CLASSPNP.SYS. I ran Windows startup repair. I restarted my laptop then skipped the check disk. I successfully managed to boot normally. I ran SFC /SCANNOW and it says the it didn't find any integrity violations (or something like that). I tried running chkdsk. It found errors but requested me to schedule it at reboot. I tried doing this (the third user post). But I can't find any entry with "wininit" source. After "windows error reporting", "winlogon" is next. I tried running CrystalDiskInfo and it says that the drive health status is good with the temperature of 45 degrees Celsius. What should I do? Is my hard disk about to die?

Hi Bryan,

Chkdsk does not normally kick in by itself, Had you just installed any new prog or plugged in a new device,
The ClassPNP points towards this.

Yes! I installed a game called "Deponia: The Complete Journey" (a copy from my friend). I already uninstalled it. But I'm afraid that chkdsk will start again. Is there any way to see what are the pending process that will run upon start up (like chkdsk, not msconfig > start up) on my computer?

Is this some sort of virus? Or my hard drive is failing?

Hi Bryan,
Virus's are allways a possibility, have you got a restore point prior to install??

Your Crystal disk scan looks OK to me, not my area thou
But to be on the safeside id run Malwarebytes free, (uncheck free trial, Enable rootkit option in dashboard)
then an ESET online scan, (dissable your current AV).

Hi Bryan,
lookin back at your earlier posts
IF your CMOS battery is failing then you will run into problems, especially as your running a non standard time Sync. BIOS time V Other not a good scenario.

Those batts are pretty cheap you can get 1 in your local Motor factors shop, (not joking), there the same as the ones in the key fobs, CR2032.

Hi Bryan,
Virus's are allways a possibility, have you got a restore point prior to install??

I tried running rstrui.exe. It says that "No restore points have been created on your computer's system drive". This is weird since I am not deleting any restore points.

But to be on the safeside id run Malwarebytes free, (uncheck free trial, Enable rootkit option in dashboard)
then an ESET online scan, (dissable your current AV).
I ran Malwarebytes. It found some adware. After that I ran ESET Online Scanner. It didn't find threats.

I have Windows 10 upgrade notifications (GWX.exe) but I haven't used any Windows 10 in my system.

Hi Bryan,

What are the good (or standard) time sync NTPs?

And sorry for this. The chkdsk hangs at 60% while in: step 2 of 3 (verifying indexes) (1602908 of 1751318 index entries). I tried this option to cancel chkdsk (I used startup repair option and use Command Prompt and typed "chkntfs C:"). It says that the C: is not dirty. When I tried skipping the chkdsk at startup, and typed the same command on elevated CMD, it says that C: is dirty. You may use the /C option to schedule chkdsk for this drive." I also tried "chkntfs /x C:" (on startup repair CMD) and it does not fix the chkdsk at startup. But when I tried it on normal boot CMD, it disables chkdsk at startup.

Hi Brian,
For the moment go back to your normal time zone.
Bios has its own clock, if your OS is different Chkdsk will kick in automatically no matter what you do.
just re-enable windows time in services
