Solved Choosing the Default Action When Dragging a File to a Folder

When you drag a file to a folder with the mouse, if you are dragging with left button, in one computer it says, copy to "the destination folder", in another computer (one is Home Premium x64, the other is Ultimate x64) it says, again with the left button, move to "the destination Folder.

Is it a difference between Home Premium and Ultimate?
Can a user define which will be the default action when dragging a file to a folder?

P.S. : I know that the right button gives the options to choose.

You can pick the default action...kinda. You simply edit the desktop.ini file in that folder.

Replace "#" with one of these numbers:
1 - Copy
2 - Move
4 - Create a shortcut

Be default Windows copies to locations in a different partition and moves in the same partition.

What you are seeing may be different on the 2 machines not because of the OS version but by where the folders are on the machines. If you are dragging between 2 folders on the same drive, the default action is to "move". If you are dragging between 2 folders on different drives the default is to "copy".

strollin is 99% right. A few times I've had the computer only copy to a folder on the same drive as the one it was already on. This mostly happens when doing so of the customizing stuff.

If it is going within the same volume then it is automatically a "Move". If it is going to a different volume then it is automatically a "Copy". If you want it to be a "Move" then press Shift while dragging and dropping. Not that hard.

I have one hard disk drive with different partitions so it must be when doing it from different partitions, the copy and move thing changes.
