A. Which of the following is correct....
1. In a OEM Win 7 64-bit computer, it has both a IE 32-bit and IE 64-bit pre-installed.
2. In a OEM Win 7 64-bit computer, if you install IE 9 manually, both 32-bit and 64-bit version will be installed automatically.
3. None of the above is correct.

B. Why this happens only in 64-bit OS, why not in 32-bit OS?

C. Why are Win 7 64-bit OS users being advsed to use the 32-bit IE, but not the 64-bit counterpart ?

Thank you.

A: 1 is correct

B: Because a 32 bit OS isn't capable of running 64 bit programs.

C; There's no reason to use a 64 bit web browser. What would be the point? Would you expect web pages to open faster? Add in the fact that many broswer plug-ins don't work, or don't work well with the 64 bit browser, and you can see why it's best to use what works. You have to remember, just because something is 64 bit...doesn't make it better than 32 bit. Different, isn't always better.

The only browser plugin that I use is Flash for those sites that require it. Previously, this meant using the 32-bit version of IE when I wanted to view those sites, since Flash at that time was not compatible with the 64-bit version of IE. Now that it is, I very rarely, if ever, use the 32-bit version.

It's there for a proof of concept type of thing. It's there so developers can play around with it and get it to work with their pages, add-ons, plug-ins, etc. It isn't the default browser out of the box, and I believe on all OEM systems I've dealt with, the 64 bit browser isn't shown on the Start Menu.

Because they have to.

I.E is a combination of platform components . These components must be made available in 64bit versions so that 64bit applications can be built using these components.

I.E can also be launched/created/used as a COM server, so a 64bit version is available to enable hosting inside 64bit processes.
