Clean install = no sound. Issue Resolved.

Gooday all. As the title suggests, I did a clean install and now have no sound. I have been to various sites and still can't get what I need. Any help most appreciated. System is noted below in speccy.

Jamtin53, your model number is not found on the sony.com site. It looks like you have a desktop and not a sony vaio
laptop.

you might want to check for other realtek ac 97 sites for drivers.

has to do with the Via chipset than anything as Via at the time also had their own audio, and it was up to the motherboard manufacturer as to which they used. That and Asus lists that motherboard as having the Realtek ALC850 audio on it (which is AC97), and also has the Realtek AC97 driver for it (albeit for XP and severely outdated; from 2005).

Did you try to install ALL your drivers before trying to install the Audio card driver ??

Thanks Memtest. To tell the truth, I downloaded a realtek driver bundle and just went through the steps of activating them. It is all working fine now. There was some confusion re a Sony Vaio. I have a Vaio but it is independent of the desktop that I had the issue with. I don't know about the bridge items you mentioned, I will have to brush up on that. Apart from the Sony, I am constantly messing about and changing things on my to desk top towers.
