Hello,

Machine HP Pavillion DV4 1241TX

I did a clean installation on the above machine following the below method
- Inserted the Windows 7 DVD and booted (Windows Vista was pre installed)
- System asked for the partition option, I opted for formatting the C:
- System formatted C: and started the installation (it took long time for the installation)
- Completed all the drivers installation (I downloaded form the HP site :))

Now the system is perfect and working excellent.

But I can see the RECOVERY drive E: when I clicked it there was a directory named RECOVERY again I double clicked this directory but its blank. When I right clicked the RECOVERY directory the system display the size of the directory as 5.29mb also the property of the RECOVERY drive E: show used space as 9.39GB.

Shall I Format the RECOVERY partition?

Regards
Bindoksala

You can delete the recovery partition if you have no intention of ever restoring to factory specifications.

I'm not sure it would work anyway since you have done a clean install.

If you delete the recovery partition, you should be able to add that space back to C if you want to.

Welcome aboard, bindoksala :)

As it is a vista preinstalled machine, the recovery partition contains the recovery options for vista. If you dont plan to get back to vista again, you may format it. The size discrepancies are due to the hidden files included that partition.

If you delete the recovery partition actually, I would suggest you back your current installation up .

It would be helpful for future needs.

The recovery partition should contain a .wim file of Vista. ( It might be split into several .swm files ).

That is for installing Vista.

If you are thinking of deleting it:

just in case you need something for installing Vista - you might want to copy the contents of that partition to an external drive, or similar.
