Hi All,

Here is a brief description of what I am trying to acheive since yesterday :

I have windows 7 installed on my machine (I did an upgrade from XP to 7) that is stored on a 160go hdd, I want to copy it to a faster but slightly smaller ssd.

I have resized the partition so that they would fit on the ssd and then I tried to copy the disk to the ssd using clonezilla. I had to copy partition by partition since the size of the disk is smaller.

After doing so I realise that the mbr had not been copied, I used the windows 7 recovery console to restore the mbr and the boot loader. I had windows 7 running but then got :Windows 7 Build 7600 this copy of windows is not genuine

Would anybody know why would that happen ? Is it that Windows 7 key is stored on the original hard drive and was not copied other using clonezilla ?

Since then I restored the ssd to its original state.

Thanks

If I'm not mistaken, changing the hard drive would trigger the need for reactivation. Shouldn't be an issue though, a phone call should straighten it out.
