+ 1

You are lucky you didn't buy Vegas 2 or GT4... CoD 4 is not that hard on hardware but still.

Also, make sure you have updated your video drivers to the latest version you can. Make sure you uninstall the drivers you have now before you attempt a new installation.

Defrag your hard disk

Make you nothing non-vital is running in the background while you are playing... msn messenger, MS Office, Adobe crap, HP Printer bloated software, etc, etc,

Check your StartUp and leave only what's needed.

You can run hijackthis and anything listed under 04 are startup items, you can check the ones you want, and then fix and they will be shut down. However once you restart some if not all will reappear. |MG| HijackThis 1.99.1 Download You can also return any that didn't on their own by checking the items in the saved file and restore them.

Ok yes you do have a poor graphics card, but it should still do alright... a bit choppy but not to the extent you are saying.

If the above solutions do not have an effect i would like ask how old is your machine? and when did you last clean the fan and heatsink? Low gaming performance often occurs when your cpu isn't getting enough cooling, you would be suprised how much of a difference a 10 minute clean can make.

In my experience most boosters dont make that much difference, if any.

How has the defrag and spring cleaning gone? has it made a difference?

Buy a new graphics card. It's the only way.

Try looking for a ATI 4850 512mb. Should be cheap now that it's a year or so old.

Then it is not worth having.

I think that you should upgrade your card. It will only run bare minimum as it is.

Well, to be quite honest, if you're going to upgrade go with something that going to allow you to expand later on. Going small now is just going to make you spend more in the near future.

I'm not saying to go out and buy Nvidias GeForce 295GTX ~ $500... but spending a little more on a graphics card will allow you to play some of the newer games without having to upgrade so soon. Even something like a 9400 GT would suffice for a little while.

* Make sure when you're choosing your card that you have enough power/plug in cords for the new card. The ATi 4850 requires atleast a 450W PSU with atleast one 75W 6-pin PCI-e power connector.

ok guys i looked around and saw that both cards do almost the same in performance for cod4

The Ati 4850 card: Powercolor ATI 4850 512MB

The EVGA GeForce 8400 GS: EVGA GeForce 8400 GS Video Card - 256MB DDR2, Supporting 512MB with TurboCache, PCI Express, DVI, VGA, TV Out, Video Card at TigerDirect.com

btw everywhere ive looked for the Ati 4850 card its all sold out.

Get the 4850 and just make sure you have a decent enough power supply too. It should last longer than the 8400 for the likes of gaming.
