Code19 problem with external Freecom HDD

So, i've got a problem and i'm hoping someone might be able to help.

Recently bought a laptop and an external HDD. After transferring my music and stuff, via this HDD, from my old computer to the laptop, i decided to format it into NTFS (was in FAT32). Then I backed up my laptop using the windows7 backup utility. After a couple of weeks I found I could not access my external drive. It's a USB powered FreecomXXS 250GB.

Anyhow, after taking it to work and found it worked fine on the computers there (winXP) I took it home and found I had a Code 19 problem with it. As I understand it, some kind of registry problem.

I have googled this and found some help to do with using the RegEdit and removing upper and lower filters but i cannot see them in the RegEditor and so cannot try this fix.

Can anyone suggest anything that may repair this problem?

Hi Mr77, as a last resort , disassemble the hdd enclosure, remove the Hdd, place in the PC and see if you can read it from there, not sure if these are IDE or Sata ther is a chance that the connections have broke or come adrift

It is an External USB drive, so neither SATA or IDE.

Not sure about dissasembling it. Pretty compact thing and probably void warranty.
Only about a month old!

My worry is that i have irrepairably (?) damaged my registry on my laptop that is also only about a month old

I guess i will have to keep on looking

I would like to repair the registry somehow though so far google can only come up with fix's that do not apply

I could do a re-install of Win7 but i do not have an installation disk!

Hi Mr77, you could always try a system restore prior to when the problem began http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/700-system-restore.html also run the system file checker to find any corrupted system files http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html . Have you no restore/ recovery partition or utility to create backup discs on your laptop
