Hi all,

I am experiencing the problem from past one month or so.The title of my thread somewhat describes my problem but not entirely. My problem has changed its form over the course of time.I'm elaborating here. The problem first started with my desktop freezing randomly with a buzzing sound from the speaker. This continued for few days. Then it changed to freezing randomly with the cursor fixed on the screen.Any moving thing just would freeze,i.e if there was a progress bar indicating some installation or video play then it just used to stop.Sometimes it used to restart on its own, sometimes I had to do it manually.I also would get the "display driver stopped working and has recovered" message. On reboot I would/do get Black screen after the Windows login. Now my problem is switching between the two modes i.e. random freezing with buzzing sound from the speaker and random freezing with mouse stuck on the screen, restarting with a black screen and showing display driver error message. While the later one seems to be more common.

Things I tried

1.Uninstalling Nvidia driver, cleaning driver left out files with Driver Sweeper and again performing clean Install latest driver.Didn't work.

2. I even took my gpu to the asus service centre as mine was of asus.I got it replaced and tested from them.Didn't work either.I can't assume they've replaced it with a copy having the exact same problem :D:D

3. I fresh installed my Windows 7.Didn't work either.
4. Also ran memory test, disk check but no issue was found.

Can't understand what's happening.Today when I was on the facebook and suddenly my screen went black after few seconds it came back with "display driver error and has recovered message",again went black and came back on,this switching off and on happened successively for 3 or 4 times and finally it rebooted with a black screen after windows login screen and settled with my installed desktop theme but the task bar color scheme first turned to windows basic mode and then changed to color that came with the theme pack. It came up with error message stated below

The entire turning off and on event happened again few minutes later for the second time but this time it didn't reboot. No error message either. No issue till now since then.

P.S. However I have noticed this freezing issue mostly when I'm browsing especially from firefox. It did happen once or twice when I was playing pc games though, but it's very rare.Mostly it happens when I'm browsing from firefox, opening new tabs, facebooking, googling or watching videos etc.I don't know whether it has any connection with that problem but I found it worth mentioning.

I would like to know can a corrupt hard disk cause this problem as the one I'm experiencing??

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in Advance.

Hi,
Remove the graphic's card and try onboard graphic's for a while,
Make sure you chipset driver is updated too.

Usually a black screen with mouse active is the desktop manager stopped working/ crashed but could also just be a defective graphic's card pretty much why you'd need to test with onboard graphic's

No you probably won't be able to game most likely but browsers and videos should be fine
In all browsers there are setting to use or not use hardware acceleration
I'd suggest to uncheck those options.

Hi ThrashZone,

thanks for your reply..I would certainly give a try what you suggested.

The exact problem what I'm experiencing quite commonly is random freezing with the mouse stuck on the screen for few seconds, sometimes showing display driver error message & recovering from the mess or getting rebooted automatically or manually, thereafter coming up with a black screen just before the desktop loads. When the black screen appears with the mouse pointer on the screen then I can move the mouse. But initially when it freezes nothing works or moves, not mouse, not keyboard or anything.Every moving thing on the screen just halts. It happens mostly while browsing than gaming.Almost 7 or 8 out of 10 times it occurs while being on firefox(browsing, opening new mails, opening new tabs, watching videos, facebooking, googling etc.)

By the way, my mobo is bit older one. It's Gigabyte GA-G31m-s2l.Can you recommend where to find updated driver for the chipset and how to install it??As I have never updated my chipset driver before.

Hi ThrashZone, sorry for my late reply as I was away from home for few days so I wasn't in touch with my desktop for past few days. As I turned my pc on today after having used it for 2 or 3 hours I again experienced a same issue.I'm uploading the corresponding dump file for the same.If you could analyze it and tell me what problem actually causing this then it would be pretty much helpful.
