Computer is shutting down randomly

so to review. You are following the troubleshooting thread you posted above. So you have a monitor attached to motherboard video, no hard drive, a psu, a keyboard and mouse and that's all. You boot up and get one short beep, then the system reboots. Is that correct? Are you consistently getting that one short beep?

Yes I was following that thread.
Only the HDD is NOT connected. cpu with fan are connected too.
I am getting the same original looping behavior as when the whole system was connected.

Yes, that one short beep sound exactly like when the system is going to boot normally, but then it restarts.
That is of course when the mobo does not restart inmediately (like 2 seconds, it looks like christmas lights going on and off).

Ok folks I remember this now and I just went through the supported G Skill memory listing of the board and I cannot find the stick you quoted in that list – not that it might make any difference but all the 1600 G Skill stuff is sticks at 4GB max and I am just curious if that stick may be not quite right for the machine if it is say single 8GB stick. .
Now one person that could tell you is the Tradesman at here Welcome to the G.SKILL TECH FORUM it is worth asking maybe it is seeing the RAM but not happy using it. It isn’t going to cost anything to ask.
I went with Tradesmans advice on my Gigabyte Sandy build as it happens and I have had a thing go wrong with it.

I just looked at your manual and it looks like you have an LED debug panel as shown inside the red rectangle on this pic. On page 113-116 of your manual it describes what the LED codes mean, so take a look at those pages of your manual then watch the LED panel next time you try to boot.

Yes John I remembered that after I posted and my Ivy B has a similar feature where it resets the memory to default only it was a little further up the board close the the 24 pin plug.

Just wondering too which slots are being used if there a dual stick set up manaull syas 3 and 1 ate he ones to insert first

Thay is exactly how I have my 2 sticks of memory installed.

This system has about 2 years of working flawlessly before this issue.

I will check this and post back this afternoon.

Remember that the system is mostly rebooting inmediately.
So, I am just wondering how I am going to read a code when it is not stationary ..

Ok well I clean installed my Ivy three times yesterday after months of frustration with posting in the forums and yep each time it crashed as soon as I went into the updates of which there a cast of millions (it seems like)

So now I am just not downloading any old update as it seems they are the problem.

Oh and that RAM button yes used it quite a bit when I first built this machine unaware of what I was actually doing :huh:

I see something like a G. No time for anything, Booting loop takes less than a second

have you tried booting with just one memory dimm? then switch it out and try with just the other.

Yes I did this, I once removed both sticks, and then replaced one of them. This is how it is now.

That sounds like you have tried one dimm by itself, but have not tried the other dimm by itself

Hate to beat a dead horse but I don't see what your CPU temp is at idle. Can you find this in the BIOS?

one other thing, your motherboard i think has a switch to boot using the backup bios. might as well try that too

also try holding down the del key while its booting, just to see if going straight into bios will work

if none of the above produces any improvement, its time to try a different power supply
