Computer keeps shutting down before check disk finishes

Hello all,

I'm running check disk for the first time on and HP Pavilion dv5-1002nr with windows 7 64 bit. The computer keeps shutting down before check disk finishes. When I reboot, I don't get the option to cancel check disk and load windows. It just keeps going to check disk. Can someone please tell me how to get out of this repeat cycle?

Thanks Danny, but I can't even get to the desktop. Like I said before it justs shuts off, then goes straight to disk check, no option to cancel, nothing.

Try booting into the repair console or run your repair disk. Open command prompt and type chkntfs /x c: where c is your windows 7 partition. This should cancel the disk check on boot.
However this will not solve the problem of why the machine wanted to run a disk check in the first place but it will give you access to your desktop for further investigation.

You could also try running the disk check fro a command line whilst in recovery environment option 2 from here http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html
