computer reboots after the mouse is touched

I have an annoying program with my custom build pc. The computer reboots randomly, with no warning, after I touch the mouse.

Heres specs:
OS windows 7 ultimate CPU AMD FX-8120 3.1 GHz 8-core Motherboard Gigabyte GA-990XA-UD3 990X AM3+ Memory corsair 2x4gb dd3 Graphics Card(s) radeon 7800 series
This problem has persisted after many clean installs with different OS. I've tried two versions of windows 7, and one version of windows 8.

The oddest thing is, that if I manage to open a game before it reboots, it will not reboot until that game has been closed. I've played all day with the computer without it ever rebooting, but as soon as I close that application, it will reboot in five seconds.

The problem has gotten very annoying, and lately I've had trouble to even start up a game before it reboots. The pc works fine in the safe mode with network so I'm able to post this.

So, does anyone know where to look at? I've thought about this a lot, and I think the problem might be in the chipset drivers. However I've downloaded the newest drivers from gigabyte's website, and the problem persists.

I've also looked in the event viewer, and it seems to give a critical error. This is what it says:

-System
-Provider[ Name] Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Power[ Guid] {331C3B3A-2005-44C2-AC5E-77220C37D6B4}

-EventData

It says that the system has been completely restarted due to power failure, crash or because the system stopped responding.

I'm clueless as to what I should do with this.

Hello apophisis and welcome to Seven Forums.

Have you tried changing USB ports? Tried a different mouse?

I would be looking at the BIOS settings, particularly the "Power Management" settings. See page 51 of your mobo manual. What is the mobo revision # and what BIOS flash are you using?

Depending on the mobo revision # I believe the most current BIOS is A19. You may want to check that and consider flashing to the most current BIOS for your revision #.

Are you overclocking? My 990fxa is rock solid with a light OC and I don't recall ever having any problems when set at Optimized Defaults.

Hello and thanks for the posts.

I've tried different USB -ports and I've even disconnected the mouse entirely, however the problem persists. I haven't got another mouse atm so I haven't been able to try that out. It's very odd though that it works fine when a game is running (even on the background), and there is no reboots.

I've downloaded and flashed my BIOS to the newest one found on gigabyte's site. Motherboard is rev. 3 and I've got the latest (FD) version of BIOS. I've played around with the BIOS settings a bit but haven't tried the power settings tho. I will see the manual when I find it.

Not sure what you meant by the A19 though? Link?

EDIT: I'm not overclocking, everything is pretty much default settings except for the BOOT options.

Maybe connect a PS/2 mouse? Sound like an easy work-around to me.
Still weird that it crashes when connecting a mouse. Did you already tried a different one?

yeah, i dont have those old ps/2 devices so i could test. the problem is that the computer reboots also when the mouse is not connected. the only way it does not reboot is when a game is running (on the background).

FD is the most current rev3 990fxa bios, it's what I have flashed. I have too many computers:confused:, the a17 is a left over from working on a Dell.
