Computer set up right?

Hello , this is my first post in this section of seven forums. I know nothing about OC and don't want to put any stress on any of my other hardware, But, I am looking for some advice. I have a six core processor and 16GB of ram. It just seems to me that my computer should much quicker than it is. I come to you folks because you are the experts on hardware setup and manipulation. I am including 4 screen shots of CPUZ. Can anyone tell me if this computer is set up right and running as it should. Thanks for any suggestions.

You came here for advice and I will give you the best that I have. Dont OC. The benefits are negligible, if kept within safe limits.

Thanks for the advice. I am not necessarily interested in OC. I just want to be sure the system is set up right. It is a new system and with 16GB ram, I just thought it would be much quicker than it is. If this is the way it is, I can live with that. I just want to be sure it is set up correctly. I have already done much of what is listed in the tutorial you referenced.

Why do you think that the computer should be faster, boot too slow?

I think something does look a little off.

The core clock on there is showing at 800Mhz, when it should be 2.8Ghz. The voltage looks a tad high as well. If you made any changed in BIOS, reset it to default, then DO NOT change any CPU settings.

I recommend you boot into your BIOS, and reset it to defaults.

Other than that it is set to optimized defaults and still reads the same. It appears that the photo I showed you was at idle. The photo from Anentech was under stress. Under stress my multiplier goes from X4 to X14 and core speed goes fron 800mhz to 2800mhz. does that sound right or is there something else I need to do?

I am not trying to argue with you. as you know more about this stuff than I ever will. But, my processor is rated at 2800mhz. It would seem to a noobie like me that the only way to get it to 3300mhz would be about a 10% OC. does that sound right?

Oh, then that should be correct.

Ah ok.

The thing with RAM is that more RAM does NOT equal more speed. More RAM is only effective if it is being used.

If all you do is surf the web, you wouldn't need much RAM. If you photoshop massive graphics, then 16Gbs will make a HUGE difference.

Yeah, that is sort of a common misconception. More RAM will make your system faster, but only if you were using ALL of your RAM before upgrading. Otherwise, its like extra resources you don't need just yet.

I was just thinking the same thing but also the clock speed goes in and out depending on the core's usage good eye LordBob it looked a little funny to me as well also 16GB Really? that's a bit of overkill you must be doing some workstation apps

Actually, I am trying to learn how to do some of those things. But, I guess the real reason is that over the years I have had 3 crashes and lost some very valuable information that has caused me a lot of grief. Each time I was told that it was because I was trying to do too much with not enough ram. I have learned my lesson and do not plan on that happening again. So, aside from the ram, I have 5 external hard drives for two computers. I am willing to bet that there is no one you know that does as many backups with as many different programs as I do. Plus I do each backup to at least two externals and usually three.

I am in my 60's, but when I was still in high school my Dad told me that the first time someone does something to you it is their fault. The second time it is your fault for giving them the opportunity to do it again. I still remember that! And that, my friend is the most honest answer I can give.

Your clock speed should be around 2.8GHZ at idle using CPU-Z. Here is a shot of mine (it's a 1090T BE which has been slightly OC'ed). My stock clock speed is 3.2GHZ and as I am writing this, the only things running beside CPU-Z, CPUID HW Monitor, GPU-Z and OS processes/services is I.E., basically idle. Check your your CPU clock voltage. It should be somewhere in near 1.2, 1.3 or 1.4 v. If it is lower than that, make sure that in your bios, the whole section for AI tweeking or overclocking is set to auto and nothing has been changed, specifically the CPU mutiplier and CPU voltage.

I just went into bios and am not sure what these numbers mean and if they were what you were referring to. Core VID is 1.368V, CPU ratio is auto, CPU Freq. is 2800, FSB is 200 CPU core control is Auto Adjust CPU Ratio is auto. Is this what you are talking about? Do those sound right?

Check to make sure that nothing has a value in it other than "Auto" in your Ai tweeking or other place where your BIOS allows you to OC the Processor. Also, make sure that the CPU mutiplyier is on Auto.
