Wi-Fi, connection. What do I need to connect my TV so that I can watch movies from my PC? My TV has Wi-Fi as I can watch facebook on it. I have not kept up with the ins and outs lately. Guess I am going to have to get back in it as I want to build a couple of new computers, which I have not done in a while. But hopefully some one can solve my problem.

Hi,

It's a bit hard to give exact answers without knowing your specific environment. Eg. what model/brand TV, does it support Audio over HDMI, what video card you have, do you have a receiver etc....

I have a dedicated PC connected to my 50" 3D TV in my bedroom, and the same setup in my living area, and in the gaming room.

Each of these TVs has the PC connected to either a Reciever (amplifier), or Home entertainment system, which is then connected to the TV via HDMI v1.4.

But, you can go directly to your TV from your computer. If you have a recent model TV it will usually have multiple HDMI connections. If you have a HDMI port on your video card then you can connect that to your TV.

If your HDMI is in use for your computer monitor, you can buy a HDMI splitter. There are all sorts of those on the market (eg - HDMI Splitter 2 4 8-port expander HDTV distribution amplifier 1080p)

Or if you have a DVI connection on your video card, you can get a DVI to HDMI adapter (Eg - DVI to HDMI Adapter: A Simple Connection Solution - TopTenREVIEWS)

If your TV does not support Audio over HDMI you will need an optical cable or coax cable depending on what your TV supports.

If your TV is connected to a receiver though its as simple as connecting your video card (and possibly an optical for audio), to your receiver.

Then we have the media sharing options, with something like the WD TV Live HD.(http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=330) Which you would connect via ethernet cable to a switch/router for access to the media, then an HDMI (and possibly optical), to your TV/receiver.

Ok, what you are talking about is the network side of things, rather than connecting audio/video.

There are wi-fi media sharers on the market. You are looking at "wireless media players"

Note though that wireless media sharing can be problematic, depending on range and content type. They can also be expensive (As much as $4000). You would want to use Wireless a or n but not b or g.

It would probably be easier "more stable" to connect through a wired router that has media sharing capabilities, or connect using a WDTV HD Live, again in a wired scenario.
