Solved Computer turned off suddenly, now doesn't turn on

yes..9beeps.but theres no 9 beeps in the list.so i assume its continuous beep but the comp turns off and stops it at 9..
Now im really confused.i installed the card.same beeps.same result.then added one ram stick.the beeps stopped(why?? The beeps shouldnt be about ram.am i wrong?).but still the comp turns off and on

no ram can cause beeps. that's why i wanted you to put them back in. how many ram sticks do you have?

but the memory beep is 1 long 1 short..i have 2 ram sticks

It is very important when you do these diagnostic tests to follow the instructions carefully. Otherwise, what's the point?

You stripped everything down to just the motherboard and CPU and restarted the computer. You got beeping telling you that the motherboard is working and looking for missing RAM. But the problem you are testing for remains.
The test is done.

You have isolated the problem to 3 parts: The Motherboard, the CPU, and the Power Supply. And as I posted in post #2, if I were going to guess I would guess the Power Supply. Sounded like it then. Sure sounds like it now.

the instructions may be wrong or not include "no ram" beeps. take one out, leave one in slot one. switch them around and see what the results are..

and to just make absolutely sure, you unplugged the motherboard, took the bios battery out, and shorted out the jumper correct?

He may be correct, but it wouldn't hurt to pick up a cheap multimeter to test it. like i said earlier. Also based on my experience, it may be both the mobo and the psu. i have had a bad psu blow a laptop mobo once. it wasn't hard to figure out when i checked the multimeter and it was showing between 400v and 600v. all the lights would turn on and it would try to start for a second, but then poof.. dead. did it for a while too. from what i heard from the owner, it did it for a couple days before finally not starting at all.

ok.ill now try to find a power supply to test with...any power supply will do or ?

It needs to have the same connectors yours does now. If that Gigabyte has a 24-pin main then the test unit needs a 24-pin main. If the processor requires a 6-pin then, well, you get it!

yes.i did it right.and now i switched the sticks.same thing.i guess its the ps problem indeed

p.s this is the first motherboard i have ever seen that takes either ddr2 or ddr3.

Yeah, it was a marketing gimmick by a few manufacturers, just to drive their engineers crazy. We will probably see it again with the new DDR4 coming out.

guys! i finally tested with another PS.and im writing from my own computer..that was indeed the ps problem..thank you guys TVeblen and FaberTech..u helped me a lot.now i gotta buy a new ps..and actually reconfigure the bios(don't have clue about that xD).but that'll be easy i guess

Well do yourself a favor and purchase a quality brand and please ask us if you need help sizing it's output. Just know that overkill here is always a welcomed thing. Higher wattage the more headroom and growth/upgrade potential later. Quality brands such as Thermaltake, Antec, Seasonic, Corsair, Coolermaster are highly recommended of course many others to consider.

Explain why you need to redo the bios? Was that from pulling or replacing the bios battery? Did you have any customized settings? If not then I would just set date and time and maybe opt for the quick boot option and just get back to the fun!
