Solved computer will not load login screen after failed Windows Update Instal

Try to run this command below inside the command prompt

[hl]dism.exe /image:C:\ /cleanup-image /revertpendingactions[/hl]

then press <Enter>

CMD says the operation completed sucessfully, and any pending actions will be reverted after restart, i restart and get the same prompt when I attempt the SFC command. Also. it says the scratch directory size may be insufficient to perform this action. It then instructs me to point to a folder with sufficient space.

   Note

the | pipe symbol is the key above Enter . Hold shift down and press the key with \ on it

Press the enter key after you inputted the command . It will tell you the drive letter of Windows . It might say its os device partition=D:

the command didnt seem to do anything, it didnt list an OS of any type. The X:\ prompt just reappeared below.

At this point you'd be better off investing in not just another reinstall, but a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 (same for retail) if you stick with the tools and methods given in the tutorial which is based on tens of thousands of them we've helped with here.

Pay extra atttention to how drivers are handled in Win7 which is not at all like XP. Have your network driver in your backup so you can get online quickly after install to enable Automatically get recommended drivers and updates for your hardware (Step 3) then do all rounds of Important and Optional Updates with reboots. Keep going back to run Updates until all rounds are done.

Then import any drivers still missing in Device Manager from the PC or Device's SUpport Downloads webpage. Don't change out any drivers given by Win7 unless you get Standard VGA display driver or another driver presents problems. We can help you determine this.

We could try this

During boot press F8 . That should get you to Advanced Boot Options . Press <enter> on Repair Your Computer . Select the OS click on the Next Button . Choose Command Prompt in System Recovery Options .

Inside command prompt type

[hl]sfc /SCANFILE=c:\windows\explorer.exe[/hl]

If that wont work change the c: to d:

gregrocker: Im really hoping I dont have to have to do that, but I do have an OEM ready from DigitalRiver. Should I use the one in the Tutorial instead, if needed?

VistaKing: When I press f8 it doesnt go to Advanced Boot, I get Windows Boot Manager witn an File, Status, and Info that I listed in a previous post. I can only get to the Command Prompt with the Install usb. Should I use the command there?

Startup Repair is Attempting repairs... fingers crossed.

Startup Repair BSOD'd, Page Fault something. PC was able to boot into windows and f8 now loads Startup Repair. System is currently Attempting repairs via System Restore.

Can you rerun FRST and FSS from the desktop

Download both programs . Once they're done downloading drag them from the Downloads folder to the Desktop folder

When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
Press Scan button.
FRST will let you know when the scan is complete and has written the FRST.txt to file
