All the old threads recommend starting over so here goes.

When I first plug in CDMA usb modem everything is fine. Full download speed, everything is normal.
Then after random length of time, nothing transfers but connection is still active.
The only way to get functionality back is to unplug modem and plug back in. (or reboot)
Then the same thing happens.

This seems to be an old problem with no definitive solution.
Modem works fine with XP, both x32 and x64. Worked on an HP Win7x64 laptop until it died. (DV9000)
Also works on a brand new desktop with Gigabyte mb, Win7x64 and USB 3.0/2.0

Dell D520 Latitude / Now running Win7x32, but started with x64.
Device manager has no yellow !!! Using Windows firewall, same problem with it turned off.
BIOS updated to A08.

I've been trying every "fix" in threads going back to 2009. I do not think it is IPv6 related.
Please help if you have any other suggestions.

Since we don't know what you tried and what not.
- Did you uncheck "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" in Device Manager?
- Find the "USB Hub" which the device is attached to(check power tab) and Reset the hub in Properties-Advanced tab.

I will double check the power save tick.

As far as what I have tried, pretty much everything I've read in dozens of posts.
Everything set "auto" config.

Modem - Verizon CDMA usb modem (cell phone) I actually have two, each has same issue with this one laptop.
PPP adapter Verizon
DHCP - no
Auto config - yes
Gateway - 0.0.0.0
IPv4 connects
NetBIOS - disabled

Un-ticked IPv6 - no difference
Removed 6to4 adapter - no difference (this is on other computers that it works with so I doubt it is a IPv6 issue)
ipconfig /release _ ipconfig /renew etc. etc. flush this and that..........

I am more than willing to try anything/ everything over again to find a missed response.

btw
It works on every XP machine I've tried.
Wifi works
RJ-45 LAN works
56k internal dialup modem works

Never worked with such modem, so are these correct? Check on a working PC.
- DHCP - no
- Gateway - 0.0.0.0

You can try this:
- Open cmd (when first connected, working): tracert -d www.google.com
- note the IPs on each node
- then when you can't connect anymore, ping those IPs starting from the 1st one
- see which ones fail, possible some intermediate node can fail (depends on router settings)

Gokay thank you for your time.

I was trying different drivers and had to do a fresh install.

I've been watching task manager and resource manager while connected and loading a page.
When it stops working the transfer rate slowly bleeds down to 40-100bps.
It does not just drop to zero all at once.
While it stays connected, I get page not available errors, and it keeps randomly sending ~100bit packets.
In resource manager, I think the TCP connections disappear when it stops working.

Things I've noticed:
I do not have to reboot the computer to get connection back.
All I do is unplug the phone, reinsert, and re-dial. Simply ending the connection and redialing does not work.

I am using the same modem drivers on every machine. x32 and x64 specific.
I don't think it is an ISP issue as it works with every XP machine X32bit or X64bit.
It was working on an HPDV9000 x64 laptop until the video chip fried.
It is working on my dektop running Win7x64 with gigabyte mb, 16gigs ram.
I am using right now on my old XP machine.

I will try traycert after the install is finished.

Here is the problem as I see it:

On Win7 (you are getting an Internet IP):
DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No
Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes
IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 75.249.25.16(Preferred)
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.255

DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 198.224.152.119
198.224.154.135

On Xp (you get IP from router):
Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes
Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.100
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1
DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

Are these 2 different machines?

On Win7 network connections, go into IPv4 settings and change IP and DNS as automatic.

Are you connection sharing?

Edit: Wanted to add, does this modem has a configuration software if it is running on Win 7? Some screenshots would be nice if so. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/9733-screenshots-files-upload-post-seven-forums.html

Yes the results I posted are from two different machines.
The modem works on the XP machine I ran the test on, which is my older desktop.
It is connected to a print router, I have no household internet. I wanted to show the comparison.
The modem works fine in my other Win7 desktop, and my wifes XP desktop.

No connection sharing. Everything is set to auto.

If you look at the "PPP adapter Verizon:" section, that is the modem.
It stays connected but stops transferring data.
If I unplug it, plug it back in and redial, it works again.
No control software, just motorola driver.

It is only the dell laptop that is giving me the problems. Latitude D520.

There are endless google results on the same issue, but I cannot find a definitive answer that works.
What screenshot information would be helpful?

Can you please copy paste just the "PPP Adapter Verizon" sections of ipconfig -all from the working Win7 and problem one. Make sure modem is connected when running the command.

Another approach:
Download DriveCleanup from Drive Tools for Windows
Remove the modem, restart PC
Run DriveCleanup as admin
Restart and run CCleaner and fix registry
Restart and re-install modem

Also try deleting Upper/Lower Filters if above fail:
Step by Step Guide to Deleting the UpperFilters and LowerFilters Registry Values - delete the filters for modems first and if that fail delete the USB host controllers and hubs. Make sure you backup the registry as described in the tutorial.

Sorry this is taking so long.
The frustrating part of this is it that it works fine when first connected.
In fact I am using it right now. Might work for 2 minutes, might work for ten. Doesn't seem to matter what I'm doing. Email, browsing, file download etc.

Here is the PPP from the Win7 desktop that works fine:

If you google:

connected "no internet" usb modem

You will get many threads of this situation.
Many right here on sevenforums.

I have tried with windows firewall, on and off.
In fact I might have to start over because I think I may have gotten a vgrabber while running with it off.

I did run Win7 SP1 offline install, and will try to go through win update.
It is very hard to do this when the modem stops transferring.

thanks again.

Hmm, 2 PCs with same computer name? That can cause problems but not sure if this is your case. Would you rename one of them? Say, AMD-PC2.

I can, but they are never connected to each other.
I actually have two phones that I use in this manner. (motorola usb modem)
I can use both at the same time, dialing the same number. They key off the ESN number in the phone.
Laptop is only one with issues.

If I figure this out I'm going to re-install Win7. I think trying to diagnose with firewall off has let some bugs in.
If you have time to check out any other threads for comparison it would be appreciated.

As Win7 is not an official operating system for this laptop, it may be a driver issue ???
I might try the oldest driver I have to see if it helps. I have been using newer Win7 drivers from Motorola.

If I can dig up an extra drive, I will re-install XP to try and see if the problem is with the PC or Windows.
Do you think that will help?

PS. I'm on dialup right now. No issues. They are both set to public networks and share the same rules.
That should rule out firewall right?

With the holiday, I haven't had a lot of time. I was able to download the files but I had pulled the HDD.
I did find the original XP HDD and installed it.
The first time I tried it connected but didn't transfer anything. :( So I unplugged and put back in, and re-dialed.

It worked for about 5 minutes. When it stopped responding,
I opened a new window but clicked the stop button; then hit the refresh and it worked again.
In fact, it worked for about 2 hours. That's when I grabbed the files you listed.

Now I have the Win7 HDD back in, and tried a couple more things.
here is the route print from a diagnose trouble link:

Attached is a resource monitor snip while it was working.
I should say I still using IE v8 as I can't get winupdate to stay connected.

One last thing and then I will run the cleaner as soon as I can.
I opened IE and it started to load a page but stopped. When I tried the troubleshooter, I selected to search the
Microsoft community. I got the "get me out of here" warning. After I clicked to allow, it starting working again!!

Are there any internet options e.g. active X blocking that could be causing this?
BTW, win update still hasn't finnished generating a list before things stop.

thanks again for all your time.

Progress made!!

I had to install Office 2010, could that have updated any files related to this issue?

Anyway, after running the cleaner when I plugged the modem in it was recognized and installed itself.
Meaning the drivers were still there. The problem persisted.

So I went into device manager and removed the modem.
Doing it this way a popup asked if I also wanted to remove the drivers. I said yes.
I then installed much older drivers from 2008. So far it hasn't stopped transfering.

Every once in a while it disconnects, but that has always happened on all computers. The difference is now
I can just redial, without the need to unplug the modem.

A remaining problem is that windows update is not working. It just sits on the "checking for updates" page.
I have let it run for over 1/2 hour.

All in all things are looking up, and I really thank you for all your help.
:)
