Constant Freezing

Hey all..

as of a couple of weeks ago my computer frequently decides to just freeze for three seconds. It can happy from anywhere between once every ten minutes, to three or four times a minute.

I recently reformatted and the problem wasn't solved. I just dedicated 760mb of a flash drive to ReadyBoost (it was a small, small usb >.<) and to my surprise, it actually made a bit of a difference.

The freezing was still apparent though, and gets disruptive when I game.

I know it's not a problem of the game being too demanding for my computer, as it's not a high-specs game and I was always playing it before a couple weeks ago with no problem.

My specs:

Intel T6600 dual core 2.2ghz
4gb DDR3 ram
512mb GeForce 210m (dx11)

Does anyone know of any possible solutions? This has been a serious annoyance over the past few weeks and I could seriously do without it D:

Thanks in advance. :)

Is your processor getting overheated in any way? I used to have a pentium T2060 and whenever it gets overheated, the fan starts, and then somehow my system lags for quite a while.

If not, then do the usual
  • check drivers (chipset driver as well)
  • check services and their cpu usage
  • check your antivirus/antimalware
  • check your system files (cmd as admin, sfc /scannow)
  • check your reliability monitor (start menu, type in reliability history)
Cheers~!

Yeah, thanks for the help. I have done that stuff previously and all seemed normal. I just found a thread in the 'Gaming' section of the site dealing with the stuttering-like problem I get with gaming, where the freezing is predominantly and issue.

I'll give the steps in there a try and then come back and let you guys know.

Thanks for the help though bud :D

Well, mixed results I guess. Freezing was minimal but L4D2 still crashed >.>

Is there any other advice anyone could give me to boost the performance of my laptop? :)

I don't really have the knowledge to be opening up my laptop to be doing that sort of stuff, to be honest.

Game Booster actually works amazingly well. Nice find, sparkie.

Next time it freezes use these to generate a dmp file and upload it to us. http://www.sevenforums.com/crash-lo...-nov-generating-memory-dump-hung-process.html

zigzag, does it matter if the program's status doesn't change to 'notresponding'? My programs don't seem to do that when these freezes happen... I'll see what happens though, going to maybe try and trigger a freeze in a game and create a dump of that.

Guys,

I apologise for the bump. From the time of my original post here until just yesterday, I still suffered from the problem of constant stuttering/freezing.. This mainly occurred in Source games, for whatever reason, and other games, such as Battlefield: Bad Company 2, ran perfectly fine.

Yesterday I decided to try and find more information from people suffering the same problem and realised that the most likely problem was my HDD. So I opened up SpeedFan and ran an extended S.M.A.R.T. test, and wanted to see what that could show.. When I set that to run, however, and booted up Half Life 2: Deathmatch, everything ran incredibly smoothly. Not a hitch at all. When the test was aborted: BOOM, out came the stuttering again.

It's one of the oddest workarounds/'solutions' I've seen for this sort of problem, and I'm afraid my grasp of hardware does not cover how this works - some of you might have more of an idea. Either way, it works, and for that I am incredibly happy.

Just posting here for future reference.. you never know if someone might have the same problem as me. ;s

Thanks a lot for your suggestions guys. Though they didn't solve my problem, they did teach me some more about the troubleshooting process, so I'll try to stick to that next time. :P Once again, sorry for necro-ing a mega old thread.

Cheers.
