Solved Controlling Windows 7 music server from another computer

I have a large living room. On one end of the room is a Windows 7 computer connected to speakers and a media system. This has all my music contained on it.

On the other end of the room, I have a netbook. However, to change the music on my desktop, I have to get up off my sofa, walk over to the desktop PC and change tracks on the desktop PC. I want to be able to control everything from the netbook.

Is there a good music server that I can run on my desktop PC that allows me to change the tracks, play and pause from my netbook from a web interface?

If both are connected to the internet, you could use Freeware TeamViewer to remote connect to the desktop.
I use it to connect to other computers in my workplace & at home when testing out various systems.

If your two computers were running the same OS Windows 7 (or even Vista) you could remotely use the Windows media player through network by allowing both computer to share media files from a created Homegroup settings or added one.

Doc is right. If you want to control your desktop from the netbook, Teamviewer is an excellent option. And I don't see your concern regarding the overhead.

Well the OP do not want stream or using such TeamViewer soft...So though a Nas could be best to suit his network...might just have a small USB NAS adapter from a dedicated Hard drive

Thanks all, but I managed to solve the problem myself by using MPD for Windows with Sonata Client on the Linux netbook.
