Cooling Fan Runs Excessively Fast

Hi my friend

My Machine is presario CQ62 with intel i5 processor. When there is no processes running, the cooling fan works very fast. The result is the battery runs down rapidly. The external temperature is about 29C to 32C.

Win 7 professional installed.
AVG installed, with no link scanner running.

Is this situation normal? seek some help from you.

There could be an issue with overheating. Laptops by design don't have much space between components so air flow isn't the greatest. Dust build up around the vents, or placing the laptop on a soft surface like a pillow or bedspread, can seriously impede air flow and cause the fan to work extra hard. An external temperature of 30C can also add to the heat issue.

Even more important than external temps is what temperature is your computer showing? There are several free programs that can give you real time temps. Once you know how hot your computer is you can better judge if the fan is simply doing it's job to keep your machine cool.

In addition to keeping your laptop on a flat, firm surface, you might consider investing in a laptop cooling pad to help with increased ventilation and air flow. And a can of compressed air can be used to blow dust out of the vents. Use short, quick bursts or the air can freeze damaging electrical components. And never turn the can sideways or upside down. The propellant will come out as a liquid.
