I am not sure if this post belongs here but here's my situation.

Hard drive crashed. I DO NOT have any Windows Backup in order to restore the user profiles to the new drive. However, I do have a copy (a manual backup) of a profile that contains all the folders (i.e My Documents, My Pictures, Favorites, Cookies, etc).

My question is how can I best move this over to the new hard drive's profile (new). Can I move all the files over to the new profile manually or are there some files I should not move/copy over?

Again, these files that were backed up is not used for Windows Restore.

I mainly want to get the bookmarks for IE and Firefox, everything related to Outlook and of course all the document files. I know I should not move/copy the Desktop folder but I am not sure if I need to move/copy folders like AppData, Application Data, UserData, etc.

And if I cannot just simply copy the files over then what is the best method to get them moved over?

Thank you for your time.

Copy those folders that contain your user data - Documents, Music, Videos, Pictures, Downloads. The IE Favorites you reimport to the IE. Do not copy any of the other system files like AppData, UserData etc. For the cookies I would not bother. They will probably not work.

Thank you for your reply. What about the stuff for Outlook?

With that I cannot help you because I never used Outlook. I use AOL for my mail. There all my mail is on the AOL server and I don't have to worry about migration.
