Good to know.

So it was stable over the long time that was required to complete the test.

Now what remains there is the possibility any sort of defect from the part of the SATA port. If you can, remove the HDD and re-insert it, to make it sure that the disc is properly seated.

Arc,
I did remove the HDD and I removed the ram to make sure they too were properly seated. I was intending on removing the entire bottom cover to check out the remaining parts of the system board but there are 2 screws that do not want to budge so I have abandoned that for now. I see Greg had responded following your request and I was unaware of that until now as I left the computer off while I was trying to get the back cover removed. I will try to use the computer over the remainder of the weekend to see if there is another BSOD or if it was just improperly seated drive or memory. If there is another BSOD I will proceed to the clean reinstall as Greg is obviously now very strongly recommending.

Arc,
I wanted to give you an update. I have been using the machine now fairly regularly and there has not been another BSOD. I did not want to jinx it by responding too soon but I have had absolutely no problems. I decided yesterday afternoon to put it through some additional tests so I ran Memtest86 for 8.5 hours and it passed every test and iteration before I exited the ram tests. I then left it on to run the Seatools generic long test once more and when I turned it on this morning it showed that again it had passed that test.

I believe we have reached a resolution of the problem -- it was either improperly seated Ram or HDD. Unfortunately, I cannot say for certainty which of them was the problem but I suspect it was the Ram which is the reason I uninstalled and reinstalled it along with the HDD. I have not had any problems with long page loading as there have been several instances where this has occurred over the last 5-6 days and the pages have eventually loaded.

There have been a couple of instances after clicking on a Google search link where the desktop screen will appear for 5-10 seconds before opening a webpage but ultimately the webpage will be displayed. Previously this would have ultimately led to a BSOD 99.99% of the time. The computer boots fine and seems to be running cooler although I have not loaded any programs to test the CPU temperature. Let me know if there is any additional testing or logs you recommend to confirm the issue has been completely resolved before I mark this thread as solved and send out the numerous thank you messages to all of those who have helped me with my issue.

Just my two cents worth gain you mentioned not being able to dislodge those fixing screws - two things they were crosshead screws or those rotten star / double toothed shaped drivers one has to use and in any case most makers dab the screw end with a hold tight / has it been disturbed? compound which makes getting them out very hard at times - usually a blue coloured muck .

Now if you ever have to clean slots agin follow this ZI find it works a threat with deskies and laptops.

SLOTCLEANING

Now as for the slots to clean them use a strip of old credit card(or any card thin enough some are better than others ) about 1/2 inch wide nipthe corners off one end - preferably round them off hold apiece of thin lint free cloth over the end dab on some form of alcohol -isopropyl alcohol (what we swab the skin with before an injection) is good and GENTLY swipe along the slots.

This can also be done for the GPU slot/s and also the contacts of thesticks or cards - not the stick but some lint free cloth of course. See my picfor the sick but please be very gentle doing it if you are in any doubt -please ask before doing it but I use this all the time and have yet to damageanything

Whatever, the most important thing is that the computer is running stable. I think the re-seating did some good job there.

In this situation, I would not suggest you for any further troubleshooting at this moment. Dont fix it when it is not broken.

Keep observing the situation. Report us for any further issue.

In the mean time, you may mark this thread as solved for now. If the issue bounces back at any future time (I wish it will not) just unmark it and continue. :)

Arc, Gregrocker, Derekimo, Icit2lol, NoelDP and Layback Bear,
Since my last post I have been running my PC heavily and there have not been any signs of problems -- so I am marking my issue as solved. All of you have worked so very hard to assist me with resolving this issue that it simply does not seem like enough to just say thank you because I know how difficult it is to trouble shoot issues of this nature. Each of you have demonstrated to me that your patience and understanding is equaled by your computer knowledge which is a rare combination to say the least.

I am truly indebted to each of you as well as everyone else out there who reviewed my situation to offer a suggestion. This is by far one of the most interesting experiences I have had although it was probably under the worst circumstances imaginable when I consider what was at stake.

As a team and as individuals you each offered me so much of your time and your focus on my issues -- it was truly my pleasure to have made your acquaintances within this forum. I have learned so much more than I knew before I submitted my problem on this forum. I have decided that I will be following this forum and/or its successor when I convert to Windows 10 just to learn more about the maintenance of my PC. Again I thank you all and if I missed anyone please accept my apology as it was inadvertent. You all are truly the best.
