Solved Copy of Windows not genuine

Have genuine Dell Win 7 for years now. Ran fine until the last few months where several times I've booted and had a black desktop with icons and the old Copy of Windows is not genuine. Each of the past couple of times I did the SLMGR -REARM at a command prompt run as admin. And then it ran fine for a long time in between.

Today it came up with the not genuine window. I hadn't had a Windows update. I ran Malwarebytes and had one pup and got rid of it. I tried the SLMGR deal again and it said you've done it too many times. So I read that you go into regedit/local machine/ and reset the SkipRearm value to 1 to be able to use SLMGR -REARM again. Ran it and it said ok, but after reboot the not genuine once again.

Did a System Restore to a week ago when it was ok and it ran and restored, but then came up with the not genuine once again.

I entered the Product Key off of the comp case into the Computer Change Product Key box. Said no good. So I ran Magical Jelly Bean to get the Product Key. It came up with

Product ID: 00426-OEM-89xxxxx-xxxxx match to CD Key data
CD Key: MHFPT-8C8M2-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx

I entered the CD Key number in Change Product Key but said no good.

I did see that some recommend uninstalling update KB971033. Little leary to do that, but I will if it's a good fix.

Thanks

From what I have been able to find after searching the web it seems that your Windows activation code that you are using is for a Hewlett Packard computer & yours is showing as a Dell.

Are you sure you have the right installation disc & have yo looked around the computer to find it's authorisation code sticker.

Hi Jak,

Ranger4 is correct, you are trying to use an HP key.

it appears that the machine was originally shipped wth Vista, there is NO W7 marker key present within the BIOS, part of the reason its going non-genuine.

The OEM sticker on the side of the machine should state Manufacturer/W7 version/key
The key you are trying to use would never be imprinted on a >>Genuine<< install disc, its only ever used during the manufacture of the machine.

Slmgr is only a temporary fix

Roy
