Solved CPU at 235 degrees F

Hello,

I just installed Speccy, and was horrified to find that my both cores of my 2014 Lenovo ThinkPad are running around 235 degrees! And that's with nothing running except normal boot programs.

I've opened up the bottom to check for dust, but the laptop's still only about a year old, and there was very little dust inside. I've checked my running processes with Process Explorer, and found nothing that looked untoward. What could be causing this extreme temperature?

Hi i would try using another program to check your temps as i do not believe it is reading right if it was it would not be running at those temps. try using hwmonitor(cpuid) HWMONITOR | Softwares | CPUID

Hi oscer,
Here's a screenclip of HW Monitor's readings. It's lower than Speccy when I ran them side by side, but still up there & shows a max of 236 degrees. The air coming out the side is pretty hot.

i would try blowing out all the vents with compressed air. yeah those temps are way to hot. are you sure the fan is running?

I can hear the fan running, and it seemed fine when I had the bottom off and was blowing it out. Everything looks pretty clean and shiny in there.

Looks like you might need to replace the thermal paste :/
Real temp is what I use you open it and minimize it and it shows the temp in the action center side

I had the same problem on my Lenovo Laptop with an A10 CPU.
You are looking at the Package Temp and not the CPU core temp and I think there is a problem with the sensor for the Package Temp. I reported this to Speccy and they said there were only reading the Package sensor.
My Package temp was at 96C and my Cores were at 32C and has been running like that for a year.
On my A10 the Tj Max is 80C so it should have shutdown if the Core reached 96C.

@ThrashZone, I dl RealTemp and on running it, it came right out and said my processor isn't supported. @PhoneMan, I'm hoping this is going to be a sensor issue as you describe. That would make sense, because as stated, the computer should be shutting down at such temps. So I'm going to go ahead and mark this as Solved, with my thanks to all responders.
