CPU AUX temperature, wild fluctuations

It's been a year and a half running this PC and I've had next to no problems. In the past couple of days I've been getting some odd locks, some strange "digitized" audio while playing video, etc.

So I checked HWMonitor, and my CPU temp is reading 119 C ... So I took my box out to the garage and gave it a thorough dusting with the air compressor. I was playing it safe, I figured it had to be some kind of error. The thing was really dusty.

I downloaded Core Temp and Speedfan, and I've been monitoring my temps for the past 10 minutes, and I see two oddities:

1) Fan1 is showing that it's running at 14 RPM. I just took the panel off and checked, all the fans are running at what appear to be normal speeds.

2) the CPU AUX temperature is showing as 125 C ... it was showing at -23 C briefly, now I see it going from 23 C back to 125 C and then to 37 C and then back to 125 C. Now it's going back and forth from 55 C to 122 C and 125 C. It's all over the place. How do I know if this is an actual reading or a gauge that doesn't actually connect to anything?

Everything else looks normal, core temp is between 15-17 C, GPU hasn't gone over 33 C, my HD's are at 35 C and 27 C.

Should I be worried?

Thanks for the help :geek:

Here's a few other tidbits to go on:

I ran a full heuristics mode boot scan on Avast!, that came back clean.

I can't say it's a repeatable problem because it's too intermittent, but what's been happening is, I open a web page (in Chrome), after having no problems surfing for several minutes, and that page and all pages following it take an indefinite amount of time to load ... I'm on a gigabit ethernet cable connection via a router, that as far as I know, isn't giving these problems to the rest of my family.

The part that has me a bit spooked is that I can't bring up Task Manager with CTRL-ALT-DEL at this point, the three finger salute just doesn't work, and I have to hit the reset button (possibly because I'm too impatient, I've never waited more than 2-3 minutes) to reboot and get the standard options to boot into Safe Mode.

Earlier tonight I updated Windows 7 Home Premium SP1, it's got the latest updates.

If it continues I'm going to switch browsers as a test to see if Chrome is the culprit. I'm running short on troubleshooting options though, and I'm really wanting to nail down whether this is hardware or software.

Ah very good stuff, thank you kindly. I've got the MBAM Pro version, should probably run it too.

And about Chrome ... you'd think that Chrome for Android would run perfectly, but Firefox for Mobile works a heck of a lot better.

For a while mate and this is just my personal view I think the free MBAM is fine and just use one of the other suites as a real time I don't know what you are using but for example if it was Avast paid or free then use it on it's own and use the MBAM as an on call scanner like the others form tie to time. You shouldn't as a rule run two AV 's together at any one time.

Plus just over the last two days there have been two threads I have been on where the MBAM Pro has been the problem source for audio problems

As for the Android I'll be honest I have never had one or even used one so go with whatever you fell comfortable with .

Thing is you will get a lot of folks saying this is the best and that is the best the truth is none are 1000% infallible and so the use of the on call scanners for stuff the main security may miss.

ADW and SuperAntiSpyware both found things that MBAM did not, so I tend to think you're right.

Thanks for your advice

Malwarebytes Anti Malware is what it's name indicates; anti malware.
It is not a anti virus program and should not be used to replace a anti virus program.
Malwarebytes Anti Malware in not a adware removal tool for web browsers.
MAM is not a anti spyware it is a anti malware.
I have used MAM free on demand and the Pro version and they both work well for what they are designed to do.

This is why we use different programs that do different things.
Example: Super Anti Spyware is a great program for removing spyware but it doesn't remove viruses or malware because it's not designed to do nothing but remove spyware.

I call this a layered protection method. Finding the right combination of program that do what they are designed to do and do it well working together.

Knock on wood. I use MAM Pro and have no audio problems.

Yeah Bear I hear what you say I just use the free as my Kaspersky really does not like the MBAM in real time.
Anyway am taking a break soon and will think of what I should and shouldn't do in SF.
