First of all Hello! :)

I Have Intel Pentium E2200 core 2 duo
running at its standard speed/not over clocked speed

my problem is that few moments ago my pc video card was running at temps 60-65C
with load and 40-55 in idle so i was getting worried in getting my video card fried so i off my pc and started removing the video card and cleaning the fans of it

after cleaning it i decided on cleaning the CPU fan( the fan that is on the top of the processor ) but i cant access the sides so i removed it and placed it back after it i opened my pc and started at doing my games ( i opened 2 wonderland online windows) and it consumes 100mb of ram each when i started it suddenly my processor temp gone into 60-80C":cry::cry: usually it was 45-50 C" so i turned off and made sure that my cpu fan was placed perfectly it was placed perfectly so im inquiring here on what to do with my cpu temps should i buy cooling fans that can be put additionally inside/outside ?
btw cpu idle temp after cleanin was 37C"
before cleaning it was 40C"

Sounds like the cooler didn't seat properly and/or too much heat sink compound. Remove, clean and reinstall is the first thing to do.

When you put the CPU fan back, did you first properly clean all surfaces and use new thermal compound (one pea size blöp in the middle of the CPU). If you did not do that, your problem is normal.

@Gewb i did put it back properly and made sure it doesn't come loose or something

@whs yup cleaned all surface of the cpu and the fan as it was full of dust
thermal compound was still present in the surfaces but not sure if i should put more as its kind of dry or something like that

and its summer in our place right now so its kind of hot but not this hot in my cpu :D

anyway i've tried burn in tests and captured screenshot of speedfan with the cpu temps
was wondering why is it that its burning test doesnt increase my cpu temps but doing other things does increase it :)

EDIT: But playing wonderland online does increase everything in my CPU load=100% CPU temp=70-80C" before i cleaned my fan it was not like this

i didn't touch anything at the processor slot though just brushed it a little and made sure it was fully locked
i only touched my cpu fan :(

Anytime you remove the CPU's heatsink, you have to replace the thermo paste as the stuff that was there has been disturbed and may have developed gaps and air bubbles from using the old stuff.

Basically what happens is when you apply a new coat of paste it's soft and will melt into micro grooves and create a sealed surface. Now later on you remove the heatsink again and pull those sealed areas up - well because of heat and other factors the old stuff that was there has hardened and thinned out so now there's nothing there to fill to gaps you opened by removing the heatsink. Thus you'll now need to remove the old coat and reapply a fresh new coat to properly seal those gaps again, and thus get your temps back in line.

Hope this helps.

oh okay ill buy it somewhere in computer stores ill find some tutorials to apply it since i dont know how ( im not the one who assembled my PC) what kind of thermal grease should i get? :D

in cleaning the thermal grease remains should i scrape it up? including in the processor area as when i opened it there was dried grease in it

-thnx

I suppose. Just about any thermo paste will do. You just need to make sure it's good for use on processors as they generate a lot of heat.

No. It should have silver or a ceramic base. Those compounds transfer heat much better.
Are you speaking of CPU or your GPU? It looks like both from your posts?
As sygnus21 states, brands are up to debate, but I think everyone would agree on the compound type. There is a specialised cleaner for used thermal paste as well and a primer to use after cleaning. I use both if I need to remove the cooler from the CPU. You might look and see if the FAN is removeable from the cooler to leave it intact in the future. Be less hassle.

We would..... but I get the feeling the OP wants to go the cheap easy route.

And honestly any compound would do but yeah, one of the more recognizable brands containing silver or ceramic would be best. This we agree :)

i can buy any thermal paste my budget for it is $60 id go buy in computer stores later for now ill have silicon based thermal pasted and would find things to remove those i applied

can you mention the names of those things your saying in removing cooling and after cleaning etc? so i can buy them

ive bought a new thermal paste and applied it using the guide but still speedfan reads at 70-80C" T_T

EDIT: i've removed it again and put another thermal paste

so far this is my idle temp 43C"
loaded with 4 wonderland online 55-65C"

IntelBurinTest V2.50 temps at 81C"
is this normal now?

someone suggested me too that every 5-6 months i shall remove the thermal paste again and replace it with a new one ?

Ceramic is best because it can withstand high temps without changing its properties. Think of the ceramic tile on the shuttle.

There's really no need to do that unless you're doing extreme overclocking where the heat can break down the paste - highly unlikely you'll fall in that category.
Bottom line is "every 5-6 months" completely unnecessary as the paste will certainly last a lot longer than that.

The only time I "replace" my paste is if I swap CPU's or remove the heatsink for some reason. I’ve had systems run for years without replacing the thermo paste under normal use.

My two cents.

That's correct no need to replace thermal paste unless you do a CPU swap or get a new cooler. One more thing, after you apply the paste and place the cooler on it you're done, clamp it down. do not remove it to see how the paste spread. the on/off cycles will cure it and the tension on the cooler will complete the spreading process. :geek:

EDIT: I have a 6 year old PC which has been running just fine on the original factory thermal goo.

Intel Burn Test is a very very severe test, moreso than Prime 95. I'd say that number is not extreme, considering your idle temp is 43.

In a 23 C temp room, a cool running PC will probably idle in the mid 30s. If the room temp moves up 5 degrees, the idle temp will probably rise the same amount or close to it. Your idle temp may be a little high due to several factors: room temp, cramped case, not much help from case fans, etc. But I wouldn't worry about 43 degrees on a Core 2 Duo.

Arctic Silver says that on a Core 2 Duo, you should apply a thin strip of thermal paste down the center of the CPU backplate---about the thickness of uncooked spaghetti. You don't have to spread it around--the tension from the heatsink will spread it out.
