CPU going nuts when doing simple tasks?

Like the title says, I don't know what's wrong, at first I thought it was just room temperature.

Now it has gotten worse, the problem is that my CPU's temperature goes above 70 and sometimes around 85, and the fan just goes crazy.

I can run as many applications I want, as long as they don't involve: gaming (3D), video rendering, video conversion, video streaming, skype calling etc.

This is ridiculous, I'm trying to convert my videos to another format, and can't really do it in this condition because I fear shortening the life of my laptop if the overheat stays on. I just bought my laptop the start of this year, this only started to happen recently.

Is your laptop under warranty? If it is, let Acer fix it. If it is out of warranty, we will attempt to fix it 'DIY' method.

Probably normal - its the software i think - i used windows movie maker to convert several mp4 clips into a movie and my laptop was gettin up to 78c in a 22c room - for some reason microsoft allows 2 cores of the four to run at maximum usage = 100% - mines a quad core (intel core i7 2630qm) so if it takes a while for the converting, and since its within the bios allowed heating range it just lets it run without the shutting down. I didnt like it either, so i tried the same process on my desktop to see what would happen, which is a dual core 6850, and it did the same thing with both the cores running at a 100% usuage -however as the motherboard has a utility for more effective fan control it keeps it a fair bit cooler. Weird - but, microsoft to blame.

Your only problem seems to be your fan goes crazy, which couldnt be considered normal, but it may have a dust build up - after all the laptops has gotta have a heat threshold which will shut it down to prevent damage. So i would suggest you have a look under the bonnet, so to speak, to see how much dust has built up - if not the fans faulty and slowly wearing out and should be under warranty.

It sounds like you either need to reseat the HSF or reapply thermal compound, because your temps are very high. If that doesn't work, you might want to look into a new HSF.
