Hi,

I've recently noticed alot of random pc freezes and shut down's that i think may be due to cpu overheating because the top of my case is red hot during games..

I downloaded core temp and found that its idling at 39-40 degrees C and when i go into my bios options my cpu fan (arctic cooler xtreme Arctic Cooling Freezer Xtreme Revision 2 Socket 775.. | Ebuyer.com) is only able to run at 1100 rpm ?

is there anyway i can raise the speed and therefore drop the temp of my cpu ?

edit: in game it reads at 66 degrees

Any help would be great

I don't know if 1100 is the max rpm of that fan or not. Does it run at a constant 1100 or does it run slower when you are not gaming? You might be able to get more info from the Arctic Cooling web site.

Your other choices would be to keep the cooler, but replace the fan (if you can find another that fits) or to get another cooler/fan combination.

39 or 40 is a good idle temp.

What is the temp when gaming?

67 is acceptable on an Intel processor. I'm not sure about AMD.

You should be able to monitor fan speed while gaming with an application such as HWInfo32.

I think you are looking at the summary tab in that picture.

Instead, use the sensor tab to look at temperatures.

Yeah, that's it.

All those temperatures look good, but what do they look like when you are gaming?

See if your fan speeds change when gaming also.

Well, it looks like your CPU temps go up to 70 when gaming. You’d have to investigate if that is “too high”, but it would be acceptable on an Intel processor. I’m not sure about AMD.

Your chassis fan moves up from 1073 rpm to 1352 rpm.

What do you see for GPU fan and temps if you scroll down further?

I’m not sure why your picture doesn’t show a “CPU fan”.

It may be that your fan tops out at about 1352. I don’t know if there are faster fans available for that cooler. You may have to change coolers if the temps are bothering you.

But I’m not sure if your temps are too high as I don’t know much about AMD.

well i had a look around and apparantly thats acceptable =S the gpu temp is 30 degrees with two 1330 rpm fans.

I'm beginning to think maybe its not an overheating problem =(

edit: actually seen some people say that it shouldnt go over 62 =S

The claimed safe limit* for a Phenom II is 62°C, but the monitoring tools aren't always fed correct data because the internal sensors aren't precise enough. Your reading can be 7-10°C off in any direction. AMD has built-in safety feature that shuts the CPU down once it hits 90°C, as real degradation apparently only begins at 92°C.

So you do have a temperature problem indeed. However I don't think your CPU cooler is to blame here ... unless it is incorrectly installed.

You mention that the entire top end of the case feels red-hot, which sounds to me like lack of airflow. Then again the CM 690 II is a good case, so I'm wondering what's going on. I could understand it if you were running some super-hot GFX card, but a GTX570 doesn't generate enough heat to cause any problems in your case.

Check every fan's direction by holding your hand in front of it. The front and left-side fans should be sucking the air in, the other fans should be blowing it out. If necessary, open the case and put a desk fan next to it.
If it remains stable that way, you'll need to upgrade your case fans or get a better case.

I had a similar problem, and found out that my 4870X2 was blocking airflow in my old Gigabyte iSolo 210 case and creating too much heat as well. I moved up to a CM HAF X and my problems vanished even with the case fans set to half their normal speed.
