CPU Usage Problem

Greetings,

I am not sure if Windows 7 has anything to do with this, but if I just have a couple of Internet Explorer pages open - just browsing, my computer sometimes sounds like it's going full throttle with the fan or whatever is making the noise and my CPU Usage is at 90% or 100% and iexplorer.exe *32 is at over 400,000K of memory when it comes to some websites.

I am at 442 GB out of 931GB. 3GB of Memory.

My computer generally speaking is fast for the most part - files open quickly, movies and audio plays well, etc. It's mostly just an Internet Explorer problem.

I was thinking about taking my computer in to a repair place that I usually go to for a computer tune up to fix this, but I just wanted to see what people here think the problem is - just in case they try to upsell me on something that I don't need - when the problem is easier and less costly to fix.

Thanks a million for your help.

HM

Hi,
Most common cause has been the windows update system running a muck with svchost.exe
You can confirm using resource monitor.

Also see if either of these updates are installed or not KB3020369 & KB3172605
If only the first is installed install the other which here it is,
KB3172605
Win-7 32 bit
https://download.microsoft.com/down...A9C-6B30C3E1735A/Windows6.1-KB3172605-x86.msu

Win-7 64 bit
https://download.microsoft.com/down...67F-C713F7821374/Windows6.1-KB3172605-x64.msu

You will need to Stop and disable the windows update service before attempting to install it though.

I have been having this problem for a while - before the whole Windows Update problem, that I was having as well. My Windows Update works now, but it no longer indicates what has been installed in the past.

Is there a way to search for KB3020369 & KB3172605 another way. A general programs and files search doesn't show anything.

Thanks!

Hi,
Yea go to uninstall a program
On the top left click on View installed updates
Paste or type each KB# in the search box on the top right.

Or just try to install it after stopping and disabling windows update service
It will not install again :)

I have KB3020369, but I don't have KB3172605.

Just to clarify, how would this update potentially fix the speed and CPU usage with Internet Explorer?

Wouldn't a certain IE update be required for that. Excuse my not knowing what the hell I am talking about. :D

Hi,
It fixes the update system this update contains a newer update client
And should calm down the excessive cpu usage once all your updates are found and installed and trusted installer is finished.
