On restarting Dell 1747 laptop from hibernate or sleep, I'm getting "Windows has recovered from an unepected shutdown". I'd appreciate any help that you might offer.

The dump file blames bcmwl664.sys - a component of your Broadcom Wireless driver
Please do the following:
- download the latest Broadcom Wireless driver from the Dell support website by using your Service Tag number ( Dell - Drivers and Downloads )
- Uninstall the current wireless drivers from the system
- Install the freshly downloaded drivers.
- Test to see if the BSOD's are cleared up.

Additionally, this driver could use updating: NWADIenum.sys Mon Jun 02 19:25:53 2008
I believe it's a component of NWADI Interface Bus Enumerator made by Novatel Wireless Inc

Here's the dump analysis:

Thanks a million with your help on this. Installed the wireless driver and things look promising over the first ten minutes.

>> Additionally, this driver could use updating: NWADIenum.sys Mon Jun 02 19:25:53 2008 I believe it's a component of NWADI Interface Bus Enumerator made by Novatel Wireless Inc

Haven't been able to match this up with any of the drivers on the Dell site. Any suggestions for where I can find a newer version of this?

Thanks again!

Looks like this is part of my EVDO driver which I just d/l'ed last week. There has been a minor update which, when it installs, goes to Windows Update to find the newest drivers. Now, NWADIenum.sys is dated 6/3/09.

Thanks to all for your assistance.

Steve

Looks as though I'm continuing to have problems with the WLAN situation, but not BSOD crashes.

If I put the machine to sleep or hibernate manually, it usually wakes up and has a wireless network connection with full functionality. If it enters sleep or hibernate automatically as scheduled by Power Options, I typically have no trouble with my internet connection, but trying to connect to other machines on the LAN usually cause explorer to hang. If I try to restart, it hangs trying to log off forcing a hard reboot.

None of these crashes has written a dmp file. How do I best troubleshoot this problem?

Thanks,

Steve

You might try using the power plan settings to keep the wireless adaptor or other hardware from sleeping.

Thanks, I'm not really sure whether the setting in Power Options really keep the wireless adapter from going to sleep. There are 4 choices between Maximum Performance and Maximum Power Saving.

I've tried unchecking "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" in the Power Management section of the driver and the wireless connection to the LAN dies immediately.

BSOD again

I thought that my problems were behind me with this laptop, but it generated 2 more BSOD errors last night. Don't know if it's implicated, but I received an update for the Realtek network controller yesterday by Windows Update...v. 7.10.11172009

I'd appreciate any help.

Steve

Still points at your Broadcom wireless driver.

Go to Device Manager,
Expand the category with the Network Adapters
Right click on the Broadcom wireless adapter and select "Properties"
Select the Details tab, then select "Hardware ID" in the dropdown box
Copy down the first 4 characters after the VEN_ and the first 4 characters after the DEV_ and post them here. (this'll help us to identify which Broadcom chipset is involved and to see if there's a more recent version at the Broadcom website.

Nothing that I could find at the Broadcom website.

I don't know about this site, but they claim to have a 2008 version of the BCM 4315 driver:
bcm4315 driver (Broadcom) 7, Vista, XP, download

No guarantee's about compatibility, but install it using this procedure:
Compatibilty Mode Driver Installation:
1 - Download the latest driver from the manufacturer's website.
2 - Uninstall the current drivers using the Control Panel...Programs and features...Uninstall a program applet. Then verify that the driver/device has been removed in Device Manager
3 - Right click on freshly downloaded driver installation file and select "Properties"
4 - Select the Compatibility tab - and do the following:
- Click on the "Change settings for all users" button
- Click on the box to select "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and then select Windows Vista Service Pack 1
- Click on the box to select "Run as administrator"
- Click on OK to exit all the dialogs
5 - Right click on the driver installation file and select "Run as administrator"
6 - Let it install and see if that stops the BSOD's.
