Crashing every 5 minutes

So uh, I installed Windows 7 today and it crashes almost every 5 minutes. Actually it freezes and I can't do anything - I can't open a task manager nor ALT+F4 etc.
Any help?

A clean install or upgrade install? If you did not have to reinstall programs etc, it was an upgrade.

Oh and by the way, I can't install any sound drivers.

So what kind or install, see my post above? If it was clean and you have dump files follow Carls advice. If a upgrade, you just have to do it over and make a clean install.

I guess it was an upgrade because it kept my old XP files.

I do not know how you could do an upgrade from XP, it should have been a clean install.

Yes, because I saved 2nd disk and the programs were on 1st disk.

You have to give us time. I just answered 5 minutes ago. If you had your XP files in windows.old. I suggest that you start over, do a clean install with format.

Be sure that your computer is capable of handling Windows 7, too.

Will all the files will be formatted? I don't mind formatting my whole HDD.

The first thing I noticed was that you only have one gig of ram. That is on the edge of being low. It should still work, but might not be as good as it should. == First, it appears you did not do a clean install. You need to back up your files and reinstall with a this tutorial http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1649-clean-install-windows-7-a.html Be sure to back up your files. When you get it installed, there will be a folder Windows.Old. That will have your files in it if you should miss backing up a few. Do not depend on that file, back them up yourself. The install should take about 45 minutes. The drivers should be on the Win 7 disk. You shouldn't have a problem with it. Let us know how you come out. Thanks,

For the best install, you would, also format. You will not have a windows.old and therefore, be sure to back up. This is a one time thing, do it right, do it the inconvenient way, so that you have years of enjoyment.

My solution to why win 7 64 crashed for six months

Hi:

I really hope this helps everyone because I was having the same problem for six moths and it got to the point I could only run in safe mode and you know what that's like.

I am running a custom computer with the latest Intel processor with Win 7 Home Edition 64 bit, 8 GB Ram and 12 Teribytes of disk space.

I tried EVERYTHING and nothing seemed to work. I stopped all programs from loading with MS config, checked the memory, stopped my AV and still it was crashing. Quite frankly I was ready to beat the hell out of Bill Gates with his 50 billion and here I am with a computer crashing every five minutes.

Then a friend of mine told me to uninstall my Trend Micro Maximum Security with their uninstaller and get it completely off my system. For some reason that had never occurred to me. That was a week ago and my computer is running perfectly and I mean perfectly. I am a Charter customer so I installed Charter Security Suite and no problems at all plus it's free. What a hassle Trend Micro caused me for over six months.
