Do you have a powered hub at your disposal?

You could try to determine if your PC actually has USB 1.x ports in addition to USB 2. The tell is in Device Manager - if the port is "enhanced" or not. Place your mouse/keyboard on the non-enhanced ports, your MP3 player on the enhanced port.

WAG:

Try changing some Advanced Power options.

I was under the impression usb ports were all backward compatibile, so why would you have different types of USB ports?
Try updating your chipset drivers for your motherboard - they may need to be installed in compatibility mode with the OS they are written for if they wont install -
Check your bios date also
Check your software for the ZEN is the latest, check your mouse Driver

To install a driver OR program in compatibility mode - right click the setup.exe file - click properties - click compatibility - check run in compatibility with vista/xp etc - check run as administrator - leave the rest blank. Start setup.exe and install.

Check your Device Manager - you will see that you have both types of ports. You can buy me lunch if I am wrong.

These are valid tips.

His board would have usb 2.0 and they are backward compatible with USB 1.1, by default his bios would be set to high speed 480mbs probably, and if you use devices that run at 12mbs they would run at that speed. There isnt a separate usb port for the slower speeds the USB 2.0 port runs at both speeds depending on what you hook up to them.

Also did you install the software that came with your zen or are you just trying to open the device without loading the software for browsing it?

I don't load any software for either of the 2 zen models we have. Another option would also be to buy an SD card if your zen has a slot for one. They are super cheap anymore and you can use a card reader or an SD to USB adapter to open the SD and copy music or podcasts onto then toss the card back in the zen.

Usb hub

Well I went and bought a usb hub. It won't even install. Says generic usb hub driver won't install. I'm ready to give up and wait for full release of 7. I even tried hooking mouse up ps2 and won't work that way.

Did you install the driver package for your motherboard? You seem to be having a lot of trouble with several different ports which sounds to me like you might not have the board drivers installed properly. Double check that all your drivers are properly functioning in device manager.
