Hello Kumar, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Yes, you can create a Shut Down shortcut using the tutorial below to have it shut down after how many minutes you specify.

Hope this helps,

Hi Shawn,

Thanks. However, I am looking for something to change the default shutdown settings. Maybe a hack in the registry, so that whenever I shut down, the system by default will shutdown after x mins.

Thanks. However, I am searching for something that can modify the behavior of the shutdown command itself. I know "WaitToKillServiceTimeout" is used to change the shutdown time for closing the applications. However, when the applications close, the systems shuts down immediately. I need something to delay the shutdown itself when I click on shutdown (or press the shutdown button on the system).

So from what I understand, when you hit the shutdown button the system should kill all the processes but delay the effective shutdown of the system?

Yes... exactly.... so far I could only find the "WaitToKillServiceTimeout" in the registry.... I am searching for a value in the registry that will kill the processes and shutdown the system after the specified time....

I have no idea how to do that, but at least I'm glad I made the problem clear. A person with advanced knowledge on the inner works of the OS should address this problem.

Thanks. I have been researching but so far haven't found any registry value that change the shutdown behavior.

Well, it will not change the default shut down time if you use the default Windows 7 shut down options. However, using the shortcut above will allow you to have Windows 7 shutdown after X amount of minutes like you wanted though.
