Cyberdefender and W7

I have been using Cyberdefender ( Spyware Removal from CyberDefender Internet Security: offering virus scan and anti-spyware downloads ) on my Win XP system, and I have been really happy with it.

Will it work when I switch over to W7?

I assume W7 will run any XP program - is that correct?

HUH, I thought Cyberdefender was spyware in itself. I remember when my son downloaded that nasty Antispyware 2008 xp spyware, Cyberdefender was one of the only few things that came up in most of the searches when antispyware xp 2008 took over the browser. I may be wrong but I had the suspicion cyberdefender was behind that spyware.
Anyways, Get windows 7, you will be glad you did. There is plenty of good internet security and antispyware out there working for windows.

EDIT: yes cyberdefender was bad in the past. I dont know about now but once is enough for me, They are mud as far as I am concerned.

Just use something like Spybot SD and Malwarebytes. They're free and pretty good.
There was a false positive with Spybot SD with 7, I think with the earlier builds, don't know if it's been resolved yet but it is just a false positive.

Well, I don't know about Cyberdefender's past, I have had it about a year now and I am very happy with it.

Actually, I hit a site that gave me Antivirus 2008, and Cyberdefender caught it, but in the removal process, the way My Computer worked was changed. I wrote Cyberdefender on thier 24/7 help line, and they were able to get it back to normal.

So, they seem like a very legitimate anti-virus program, and thier website shows them as a NASDAQ company.

Anyways, I am looking forward to Win 7

How did you do this with IE8 and Win 7 Beta? Have you turned off all security and running in Admin mode? :huh:

Antivirus 2008, is known as Vundo infection. It adds much malware to your system, including password stealing. Are you sure you're totally clean? I would doubt very much that you are, if using Antivirus instructions without really getting to the infected files and 'downloader'.

Yikes, LappyDog (like the name, by the way), I don't remember seeing anything about Cyberdefender being bad - in fact, it came highly recommended to me by our IT guy at work. He had researched a cuple of different softwares for anti-virus and tested them on a system, and he recommended Cyberdefender and so my boss installed that on our systems at work and I did on mine at home too.

I trust him, and I've never had any problems on work or home computers. I'm exited about Windows 7 too - not much longer now - I'm sure it'll be released before the release date - they need to get it out there. I just hope it's ready to hit the ground running.

FYI - Cyber Defender WAS identified as badware but has worked on removing issues which caused that identification.

1. Free software programs make their money on adware, which can be identified as a form of malware/spyware. Spyhunter and Cyberdefender fall under the adware definition. This is not necessarily a bad thing. The ads only run in the CDAS program (CyberDefender) window anyway.

2. Because of the adware, most spyware programs identify competitor programs as spyware. If the program was 100% correct, it would also include itself because of the adware, but then who would want to keep it on their system?

3. Many attempts (esp when you dont already have anti-spyware) are made through browser redirecting to scare people into downloading an "anti-spyware" program which itself IS spyware/malware. These programs are made to identify other anti-spyware programs as spyware to keep from being identified themselves. BE AWARE...AN ALERT THAT IS NOT FROM YOUR INSTALLED ANTI-SPYWARE PROGRAM IS A HOAX.

Cyberdefender has a poor detection rate of Malware.

CyberDefender AntiSpyware 2006 produces false positives. We have tested this program on uninfected machine that were never exposed to viruses or any other parasites. However, the tested Spyware remover managed to detect 30 spyware items (using the Full Scan mode) and 16 spyware items during the Quick Scan. In the first case malicious object were related to 8 different parasites, while in the latter case items were associated with only 4 pests.

Further analysis revealed that none of detected items are actually related to any kind of Malware. Furthermore, some found parasites actually are not even parasites at all. For instance, neither C-Dilla software protection tool or Engima SpyHunter Antspyware are real threats. In our case C-Dilla was installed and used by Autodesk Inventor 6, professional drawing and graphics software. Removing C-Dilla would corrupt this program. Other "malicious" objects that CyberDefender AntiSpyware 2006 found were actually related to the following programs: the WinRAR archiver (the rar.exe file, identified as Perfect Keylogger), Creative sound card drivers (stprov.ini, identified as FreshBar), K-Lite Codecs Pack (lame.exe, identified as HideExec), simple self-made C++/OpenGL application (6.exe, identified as shopathomeselect), Adobe Photoshop CS (several registry keys describing the .sta file extension, identified as istbar). See screenshots provided below.

The Full Scan mode is too slow. Several regular modern Computers were fully checked in a little more than one hour. An effecive anti-spyware program should scan the system much faster. Quick Scan is also not too quick. It usually takes about 5 minutes to complete.

CyberDefender AntiSpyware 2006 is made by the same company, as SpyBlocs, which is a corrupt spyware remover producing false positives. Both programs have very similar interfaces, although the vendor claims to have implemented new technologies in CyberDefender AntiSpyware 2006.
