data won't download from CD-R

Greetings. Re: windows 7 O/S. Recently we backed up files, pictures, etc. from out computer to perform some work. After we finished what we had to do, we want to put the files back. There is a file called Family Tree which is on the disc with the Adobe symbol along side of it. Next I right click it and on top, it says to open with Adobe but when we click on that, it says that Adobe cannot open it because it's not a supported file. Help
