decrease recycle bin to increase storage space??

Hi, I just bought a new computer with Windows 7 and a 1 TB hard drive. Windows 7 recycle bin came configured with about 40 GB of space allotted to it. I want to decrease its capacity (down to about 10 GB) in order to increase the available space on my hard drive. However, when I decreased the recycle bin size, there was no apparent change when I left double-clicked on My Computer and it showed the amount of free space on my c: drive. Here's my question: how can I decrease the recycle bin and have this extra space show up on my c: drive as available storage space?

Hello Todd,

The storage size that you set for the Recycle Bin is not allocated from the hard drive, so you will not see a difference in free HDD space no matter what you have it set to. It only sets a maximum size before new deleted files are deleted permanently instead. You only free up HDD space when you empty the Recycle Bin to permanently delete the files in it. Sorry.

brinks right actually. didn't think about that. a note though i only allow the recycle bin on each drive to be 3gigs at max per drive.

Yes, I decreased the recycle bin by right clicking on it, chosing properties, and decreased the size to around 10 GB. But I'm still seeing no decrease in the available size on my c: drive.

okay, thanks for the quick responses. So here's a follow up question: would I see more space on my c: drive if I emptied the recycle bin??
