Hello anirudhm,, Welcome to SevenForum. What router are you using? Have you reset your IP by disconnecting router and then reconnecting? I once had a usb wireless adapter that was doing same thing and it was overheating. I had to replace it. Good luck with your problem. lm

are you using static ip on lan? what do you have for default gateway in your tcp/ip properties? your dns?

i'm gonna try and skip thru the time space continuim and tell you to change your dns to your router's gateway ip, also assuming your have your gateway configured as well, and assuming you are on static

Windows 7 VS NVidia Network Adapters

It appears to be across the board, an issue with the network adapter and windows7 configuration services. From what I can tell the default gateway is not "propogating" correctly when in DHCP mode.

I also had a problem like this (which ended up also being a compatibility issue with my router/modem/firewall device, as using a different device fixed the problem. Anyone having this issue, i would appriciate a response to the following possible fixes:

1. Try to set a static IP address and Gateway (even if they are the same as what you see that the DHCP server gave you). This was the fix I was forced to use in order to maintain my equipment.
2. Use a different router/firewall. This also fixed my problem, but was not a solution I was able to keep in force. I'm currently having the issue with a NETGEAR PROSAFE FIREWALL. My linksys device does not present this problem.

If you read this article and use a fix, any replies to whether they fix your issue or not would be great.

After talking to another IT professional I found out he had the EXACT same problem with a different NIC. This tells me Windows7 is having an issue with network hardware.

1. We are using different computers (HP vs Dell)
2. We are using different firewalls (Netwgear vs Cisco)
3. We are having the same gateway issue which is as follows:
- No Gateway is attributed to NIC Adapter being given 0.0.0.0 as the primary gateway.

I have found no fix to this as of yet except static IP settings. Hopefully a hotfix will be brought forth by Microsoft or implimented before actual release of W7.

HELP ME

I had the same problem, eventually pinned it down to the Bonjour service, if you have this then try disabling the service, if you don't use it then get rid of it.

There may be other solutions but this one was the fix for me

This is interesting. I don't own and iPod an do no install Apple Quicktime for any reason, so I never have the Bonjour service running on my machines, and I do not experience these across the board connection drops like everyone else is experiencing.

If everyone with this issue can report back to see if they have Apple's Bonjour service running, or else some other apps similar in scope, it would help troubleshoot the issue.

As I usually end up saying, if it is a Windows problem then most of us should be experiencing this issue - but I most certainly am not, and although there are a lot of posts about folks experiencing this issue, no offense, but face the truth - with the number of registered users here y'all are still in the minority - leading me to (still) believe that this is a problem with your machines (whether hardware or software).

It came with Adobe Dreamweaver, and may come packaged with other software, why? I don't use any Apple software either, I was careless and left it installed and running. It's something to do with the way the mDNSResponder service works, (and no doubt my network).

In my case I was getting multiple networks cropping up, and the default gateway was being reported as 0.0.0.0. and 192.168.x.y (the correct gateway for my network). When I ran the network diagnostics it came back with the error message the the gateway could not be found.

Whether or not there would have been another solution to merge, or do something else with the mDNSResponder service I don't know, the best way was just to simply get rid of it. Then my gateway not found issue went with it.

Yep. I learned many years ago that the Bonjour service is a must remove.

Speaking about networking itself like johngalt, it continues to be excellent here so it definitely is not a Win 7 problem, inherently. The connection issues are definitely software/hardware related, for sure.

More succinctly - driver and / or BIOS issues.

And surely we can include any software which "modifies Windows system registry entries related to internal network configuration and operation". Especially on a new beta OS and on which such software may not be fully tested.

I disabled the Microsfot Virtual Miniport thing and I have had less disconnects but am still having the same Default gateway not found when my internet disconnects on it's own. Very annoying, and i hope the fix will be an easy one.
