Defrag disk

This message is just for info.
Recently I posted about system's defrag works very slow, some answered to use 'defraggler', well, I made a try when 'time freeze' was on, it really worked fast, but it allso "defraggeled" some important data - wiped out 3 big data folders with all subfolders. This I found when restarted to be back in 'time freeze' off.
Lucky I could mount the image made the same day and most of the data was retrieved.
With macrium free cannot make files & folders backups.
I'll stay with the system's defrag.

Well you can simply browse to your Macrium Reflect backup file: .mrimg

Then right click and choose "Explore"

or double click to mount the image.

Choose drive letter

Then copy any needed files or folders.

Afterwards locate the mounted image in Explorer and right click - choose "Unmount"

Thanks for the answer.
When I right-clicked on the *.rimg file in explorer - display became white, then black and computer froze,
could not reset or ctl-alt-del, had to pull power out, wait a little, renew power, start, only then started macriun and from there mounted the image.

Sounds like you've got other problems. Issues when right clicking on files might be down to a shell extension that is installed by a third party program. Those are entries that you see when you right click drives, folders or files.

You might see different menus displayed depending upon what you right click on.

What utility did you use for defragging your hard-drive? I'm sorry if I missed your naming it. I've been defragging for some time now, and have never lost folders/files. I would like to "smoke out" what happened during your computer defragging.

Callender, I still do not know what utility was used, I'm totally unfamiliar with any utility that includes time freeze. I did see reference to defraggler, which is from Piriform, however, I have that, and I do not remember any time freeze within it.

Time Freeze is a separate program and if you ask me it should not be used when running system tools like defrag.

Defraggler worked fine when I was using XP but, with Win 7, it was unbelievably slow and, when it corrupted a disk (thank God for backups!), I got rid of it and went back to Win 7's native defragger (which works fine, btw). Since then, I've seen several people post that they have had problems with Defraggler in Win 7.

I have my Win 7 defragger set to defrag my HDDs only once a week during the wee hours when, hopefully, I'm asleep. My HDDs fragmentation levels stay mostly at 0% (or, very occasionally, briefly at 1%). I'm considering reducing the schedule to once a month.

Agreed. I stopped using Defraggler when I upgraded from XP to Windows 7.

Personal choice. Weekly boot time defrag and full disk check using Puran and I use WinContig for individual files/ folders when needed.
