Hi,

I have just replaced my dad's old computer - just the stack, have left all the peripherals as they were all fine (monitor, kb, mouse, printer). The new computer was pre-installed with windows 7. Everything seems to work perfectly but it failed when trying to install the driver for the dell photo aio 944. According to the dell and ms website it is not a supported product.

I tried the xp drivers - the printer was added to the printers list but nothing would print. I tried to install the vista drivers, but got some kine of VB error when I ran the set-up.

Is there any way to get this printer to work with win 7 (even with limited functionality) as I would hate to throw it away - the printer is perfect and they only use maybe once a fortnight.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks
Colin

According to this list --->Dell - Support
There is no compatible driver for it at the moment. I was hunting for s driver for the 924 model. They will probably make one later...I hope.

Thanks - I was hoping that maybe someone had found some kind of work-around, but I guess not.

It has been suggested to me (maybe cynically) that Dell won't release drivers because they would expect people to upgrade the printer after four years - but to be honest, a new printer would give my folks nothing more than their old one did. I will keep looking for a solution for them. If I can't find one, at least I know what they need for xmas.

If anyone else has any ideas, I would love to hear them.

Thanks
Colin

If the printer still has the sevice tag # on the bottom or side next to the serial # and you can find a Vista or XP driver for it on the Dell site, or have the disk. It maybe possible to install that driver via compatibility mode. Download the driver to your desktop> open to setup.exe file>click on details tab>compatiblility>check the box run in compatibility mode vista or Xp>open run as administrator. Here is a guide for compatibility mode.Good Luck . Fabe http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/316-compatibility-mode.html Or run it from install printer>update driver

Many thanks for the suggestion. I have tried installing the vista driver in compatibility mode. It all seems to go through fine and the printer shows in the printer list. But when I then try to print, nothing is sent to the printer, and there is nothing showing in the queue to print either. Before I installed the driver I used the dell patch that gets rid of earlier drivers (D944PUXV_A01.exe), but still does not seem to work.

Anyone have any ideas on how I might get this printer working. I would like to think that Dell are working on a driver, but somehow I doubt it...

Many thanks
Colin

Colin-

Same problem here. After trying every driver and clean (reinstalling), everytime. No such luck....

Dell - Support

Looks like DELL has punched us again...Thank Dell for not supporting ALL of their products. It is so sad that manufactures are becoming.."Well we just are not going to support our..hmmm I mean that product anymore"
-Lesson learned from my end....Just do not buy dell..other than monitors...

Dell 924 AIO doesn't have W7 driver either?

I have the same problem. Dell has let us down. My 924 worked perfectly well until I moved to Windows 7. I have searched high and low, tried Vista and XP drivers - nothing gets the printer going.

How much confidence do you have that they will develop a driver for these printers in the short term? Otherwise - I guess we have to dump the printer.

Personally I am not convinced they will bother putting out a driver. I saw documents on either Dell or MS site (can't remember which) that had estimated dates for those products that they didn't have drivers for, and for a bunch of them (including the 944) it just said not supported.

It seems criminal to have to junk a perfectly good printer for lack of a driver!!

Fixed it!

I have now figured out why I couldn't get this working. On the support page for the 944 printer it has links to xp and 32 bit vista drivers. I have since found that there vista 64 bit drivers for this printer - though strangely they are not linked to the support page.

If anyone else is having the same problem with the same printer, I recommend following the below link - note - to get this working on my dad's system I had to disable the automatic installation of device drivers - just go to "start" then type in "change device installation settings" and click on the link when it appears and choose "let me choose what to do", and disable automatic downloading of drivers. Then follow the advice on this page:

Dell 944 AIO Windows 7 Problem - DELL COMMUNITY

run the utility to get rid of old drivers, and make sure you get the 64 bit vista drivers

Hope this helps

I finally got my Dell 924 AIO working in Windows 7 by downloading the Vista 64 driver, and installing it in Vista (plain) compatibility mode. And make sure that your Anti-Virus program isn't blocking it.
Good luck.

Windows 7 with Failed Dell 944 Printer Hookup

Just wanted to T H A N K everyone that suggested using the Vista 64 bit driver to make the Dell 944 printer work with Windows 7. It worked!! I had been miserable not being able to print but my neighbor found the suggested driver and got my printer moving. I am happy.
