Solved Device driver installation will not see the hardware

Turn off the pc . Unplug the power cord from the PSU . Remove side case . Remove the PCI NIC card from the PC . . Place the side case back in . Plug the cable back in . Turn on the pc enable the built-in NIC inside the bios . Install the LAN driver from Acer's website .

Mixed results.

Powered down, unplugged Cat 5 cable, placed on side, grounded to case opened it up, removed card, stood up plugged in cable to MB port. Powered up via BIOS and enabled Onboard LAN (LAN ROM option reappeared - it was left disabled), saved. Restarted automatically.

Ran the autorun.exe in"LAN_Intel_14.7_Win7x86x64_M5810" folder as administrator (folder on desktop).

Did its thing except it flashed during the early part of the install that it was installing drivers for the 82578DC AND the now removed CT adapter. Install failed because it did not detect any devices to install for.

It did come up with a window after restart that stated Device driver software was not successfully installed. The it listed the Device "Ethernet controller" and a little circle icon was spinning as it was "Searching preconfigured drivers folders"

What is the brand of the PCI-x1 adapter card ?

On the PCI-E card:

Intel(R) Gigabit CT Desktop adapter, then below that on the card label is 893647 and below the bar code is EXPI9301CTBLK, the other label has the PWA # and MAC #

The green light by the onboard port is flashing at the same 2 to 3 sec pulse mentioned before. Yellow is solid. I did reconfirm this am the cable connection is working by hooking my own PC temporarily back up to it to do some updates. No probs.

Its not the cable its a hardware . Its not installing .

If you delete the items in Device Manager that has :warn: restart the PC .

Went into device manager. Right clicked on each of the 8 WAN miniport entries and selected uninstall. They did not disappear from the list. The one single entry for ethernet controller did disappear. Closed everything and restarted.

Windows did autodetect new hardware but said it was unable to install drivers for this device.

Did not try anything else ie run driver install

Does the motherboard only have one PCI-E x1 slot ?

It has two 1x PCI-E slots, one 4x slot, and one 16x slot. Was thinking of trying them BUT...

It is a real Bear trying to pry the cover off the slot. Not properly punched out and frame around slot I opened up was damaged. PC owner will not be impressed I'm sure. Easier to remove the knock outs in an electrical junction box.

One skinned knuckle later. Installed the PCI-E card in the slot next to the 16x slot. During restart I diabled the onboard LAN. Windows recognized there was a hardware change but did not successfully install drivers. Nor could I. Even used the newest ones from Intel website. Same gren / yellow light pattern as before.

Is the interface between the hardware and Windows fubar?

Could be hardware issue if the Driver isn't installing.

Can you open up a command prompt and type in

Ping google.com

See how many packets are sent received or lost
