Is there a free program/utility that will do this? I'm using the IFS program and Win 7 sees the drives, but I tried SeaTools to check the disk and it said the tests are not available. I also tried using Windows error check but nothing happens, no msgs what's happening one way or the other. I'd like to do at least a basic check of the drive before I start copying a bunch of data to it.

Thanks.

Not that I know of no :(

And the IFS tool, while it will read EXt3 drives fine normally, if the drive was removed froma machine with an unclean shutdown it will not replay the journal and will refuse to even mount it. The only way to fix the drive is to put it back into a Linux box and let the journal replay, then fsck it like normal.

Ok you CAN do it by using a linux VM or a live boot CD or some similar method, but there are no native Windows tools that I've found yet.

Will be watching thread in case someone else actually knows of one :D

Ok thanks. I'm thinking I'll just reformat it NTFS, check it, if everything is fine, reformat it back to EXT3. I mean, it's the hardware I'm checking, so it shouldn't make any difference how it's formatted at the time, hardware is hardware.

Heh ok :D Just besure to do the LONG format in NTFS if you want every sector to be written and verified.
