Windows 7 Home installed from factory. Upgraded to professional shortly after. Haven't made recent changes to files but laptop battery failed and machine has lost power a few times.

Hello thejcnr and welcome to the forums

Your MGADiag log is showing a bit of file corruption so let's see where a SFC leaves us:

SFC Scan

  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt

  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please zip this up and attach this to your next post.

Can you download and run the System Update Readiness Tool please?

Download System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB947821) [February 2013] from Official Microsoft Download Center

Keep it in a safe place as we'll probably need it again - if this is even fixable.

When it finishes installing, post the log please:

Hi thejcnr,

Your CheckSUR log has shown a few issues that have been fixed. The ones that remain are nothing of concern and are perfectly normal.

I was expecting to see many thousand errors in there due to the fact that you are missing so many components, but as they haven't surfaced the problem is worse than I thought.

Yes, I think a repair install is the only way forward from this: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html

Well without thinking I downloaded and ran the professional repair. But I don't have the key for that upgrade anymore. The sticker and key on the battery cover is for home premium. I downloaded and tried running that but it won't let me downgrade. Any ideas? Is my only option to reinstall home premium?

Ha! Found my key in an old pile of junk. Everything seems resolved so far. Thanks a ton for your help and input. While I'm here, I've been getting a blue crash dump screen and crashes recently. Could be from all those missing components I'm sure but is there a tool you can think of that might clean things up a bit? Don't understand how this happened in the first place.
Thanks again. It's cool to have someone from across the world take time daily to help me.

Hi thejcnr,

That's great news! Glad you're all sorted on that front now.

Can you follow these instructions to collect the required data, then post the file here rather than in a new thread please?

http://www.sevenforums.com/bsod-help-support/96879-blue-screen-death-bsod-posting-instructions.html

BSOD analysis has never been my forte (I'm more of a Windows Update guy!) but I know a man for the job so I'll see if he can take a look at this for you.

It's great being able to help people from all over the world! I get the satisfaction from being able to help others, I learn new things and I meet some great people, such as yourself :)

Hi,

Do you still need assistance with your BSOD issues?

cheers

Dave
