Direct X 11 !?!

I ran the dxdiag (direct x diagnostics) tools and stumbled onto this. it may just be a bug, anyone else running some sort of alien direct x, that doesn't exist yet?

It's not a bug, win7 is directx11, your graphics card isn't.

guess im tired (4am). i thought there was some new hardware in my pc that i have no memory of getting...... what card supports dx11? and how come i haven't heard anything about it? when dx10 was hatched the nvidia site was swarmming with all sorts of advertiing, and such. huh..

I read somewhere that no cards or software yet supports 11. Windows 7 does.....so they are writing code right now to get caught up.....

Not until hardware and software is available will you have the chance to sample it. I think the hardware will be available this fall at around the same time windows 7 will be ready. Whether they are already writing games and what not for it I don't know.

You will know what your on now with the capabilities of your current gpu.

I reckon we will have to upgrade if we want to take advantage. Like you though I think they should of made it possible to do something with the existing dx10 enabled gpu, because it's not like they didn't know about Seven(for at least a year).

DirectX11 is full backward compatible with DX10 hardware.
You can run Dx11 on DX10 GPU (unlike Dx10 with Dx9 GPU).
But don't expect to play dx11 feature on a dx10 GPU, it's totally impossible for some logical reason

Moreover: Dx11 as WARP10 which allow Dx10 rendering even when non hardware complient is detected:

Considering how long it took DX10 games to hit the market, I doubt DX11 will be a major concern for quite some time. By the time dx11 games are commonplace, DX11 cards will be in the 2nd/3rd revision stage anyway.

There's a huge difference between the migration to DX10 and this one

For Dx10 game developpers had to pass trought 2 big walls:
1. DX10 has nothing to do with Dx9. So they must recode all the game engine for Dx10.
2. Dx10 was only for Vista, but XP is still the largest gaming platerform at this time, so dev should make dx10 + dx9 version of the engine.
By the way Dx10 couldn't be adopted really quickly.

For Dx11 it's different. Dx11 is a evolution of Dx10. It's fully compliant with Dx10 hardware, and will be launch for Vista.
Dev who made a Dx10 engine can use this work for the dx11 evolution.

The only question is: when will come full Dx11 GPU ? At this time there's no annonce of Dx11 support for both nVidia and AMD about the futurs GPU...

better question. when dx11 gpu's DO hit the market, how long will it take before they actually practical and affordable? a year and a half is my guess.

ATI R800 series with DX11 support are supposed to be expected by July 2009.

This is according to the Wiki, so... you know how the Wiki is.

This also falls under DX 10.1 which is an extension of DX10.... very few GPUs or programs actually use it but as things advance, more newer games and programs may use it... same with DX11.

and yes we will need new hardware to make use of DX11

I tried to run some GPU tests on Win7 64bit (3DMark 2005 and 3DMark 2006, PCMark 2005) - and it failed. The error message says that some DX9 .dll files are missing. And it suggested I should install DX9 (which probablty isn't possible anyway).

Is DX11 not backwards compatibile with DX9 applications and games?

How to solve this problem?

consider it fixed, because dx11 cards dont exist yet

im sure, when they do arrive, most company's will either patch their current software's, or programs will just work is some 'compatibility mode' type situation
