Solved Disable auto-sleeping while watching video

Hi there,

Whenever I play a video and not move the mouse and only watch the video, Windows automatically goes to the screen saver some point throughout the video.

I really hate this, and is there a way to disable this? Or change the timing?

Hello Luigi,

Double check in your Advanced Power Plan Settings, and expand Multimedia settings -> When sharing media to see what this is set to. Setting it to Prevent idling to sleep may help.

I think the OP Description and Thread Title are confusing Auto Sleep and Screen Saver...
Sleep and Screen Saver are not the same...
Description sounds like a screen saver problem, not sleep.

Rightclick on an empty area of the desktop to Personalize, click on Screen Saver and set it to None. These have not been needed since CRT terminals experienced burn-in when left on.

Ok, heres the problem better explained:

When I play a YouTube video in full screen, and I watch it while not moving the mouse, the screen saver appears some time through the video.

Edit: Yeah, the screen saver still shows after Shawn's response and following it.

You need no screensaver if you let win7 turn off the screen when not needed.
Disable the the screensaver as Greg said above.

If you prefer to keep your screen saver turned on when not watching videos, then you could use the tutorial below to make it real easy to quickly toggle screen saver off/on via a desktop context menu before and after watching a video.

bobafetthotmail: I did that. Still, some time during a video the screen goes black. I have to shake the mouse to not make the screen black anymore.

If it still does this when you turned off your screen saver, then check to see if you may have your power plan settings to Turn off the display after X amount of minutes. If so, set it to "Never" to see if it stops doing this while watching a video.
