Disk boot failure on Win7 x64, x86 is OK

Hello!

This is very strange problem. I have a "DISK BOOT FAILURE" error during startup. I just installed Ultimate x64 and now this error appears. It was OK on Ultimate x86.

I detached all hard drives and USB devices except system disk and DVD ROM and still error appears. I booted from installation disk and ran repair and still error appears. I booted again from installation disk and ran next cmd:

bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup
c:
cd boot
attrib bcd -s -h -r
ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old
bootrec /RebuildBcd

and still error appears.

The only way to run Win7 is to insert installation disk to DVD, wait until message "Press any key to run from cd or dvd", DO NOT press any key and wait. In a few seconds Win7 starts.

Does any one know how to solve it? Thanks!

Download Visual BCD Editor - Windows 7 & Vista Dual Boot Repair. Install.
Run Dual-boot Repair utility - "Automatic Repair". Reboot.
That would be all.

It is strange but the tool fixes booting (also for single boot systems) when StartUp Repair fails !? All the tools does is executing bootsect.exe and bcdboot.exe with the needed parameters.

Four elements are needed for boot menu to be displayed:
1) MBR (can be fixed with bootsect.exe)
2) PBR (can be fixed with bootsect.exe)
3) bootmgr (can be fixed with bcdboot.exe)
4) BCD in \boot folder (can be fixed with bcdboot.exe)

Always use correct bit version 32 or 64 bit of Recovery CD/USB - must match your Windows bit version !

From System Recovery Options Mark Active the Win7 partition or it's 100mb System Reserved partition (preferred if you have it): Partition - Mark as Active (Method Two)

Then run Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times to repair or rewrite the System boot files until Win7 boots on its own.

Hi Boyans,

It seems Startup repair sometimes cannot identify the problem. Therefore it does not know what to do.

On those occasions I suggest people run the commands manually - as you say, that often does the job.

Thanks for all replies, but none of them helped me, so i just reinstalled OS with one disk attached to PC. And now it's ok
