Solved Help Please: Trying to install Win7 Pro (disk boot failure)

Hello,

I could use some help. I'm now thinking I bought the wrong Win7 Pro disk (System Builders). I built a new PC and thought this would be the right version for a brand new install but now I have my doubts. I am trying to boot from DVD drive (Win7 install disk). My bios screen (Gigabyte GA-P55-UD3) allows me to hit F12 to boot, and then select CD/DVD drive. I just get a "disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter".

More background: I want to load Win7 to OCZ Vertex2 SSD in AHCI which I configured in the bios and also selected 64-bit under power mgt bios screen.

Any thoughts? Presently hung up here hoping an expert can help me troubleshoot Sunday noon. Thanks!

What is your Make & Model of DVD drive ? Sata or IDE ?

Thanks so much for the quick reply....OK I'm a total DoDo. I was short one SATA cable and of course it was the DVD drive that was not connected. I'm now at Windows Boot Manager screen. I hope that I can just follow the tutorial sticky on fresh install from here. thanks!

OK. I completed the install, but despite my efforts to configure the SSD as AHCI (in Bios) it configered as IDE. I tried going into the Bios to reconfigure as AHCI after Win7 installed but it just reverts back. Is there a way to change this?

Thanks to both of you guys for getting me up and running.

GregRocker: For someone with 2 disk system--one SSD (OS/Apps) and one HDD (data/OS image) do you recommend moving userdata to data disk or keeping it on SSD OS drive and just using library/themes?

I would keep User folders on the SSD as long as there is space to spare.

When the space tightens up then I'd move User folders to another HD.
